We've been coming to Jávea for more than 25 years and usually during the summer visits we go to Pepas. Mgt changed- a few years back.. We went last night. Brought some family there for the 1st time. 7 of us dining. Our server was nice.
We ate calamari, the pizza garlic bread, chicken skewer with peanut sauce, provolone for starters. All good. Fish, calzone, spag bol , spaghetti fruit de mare- all nice. 3 of us wanted the original carbonara. We went there specifically for it tbh. They make the effort to highlight it on the menu that they have 2 types of carbonara. One with cream. Which isn't carbonara btw and one with guanciale, egg, parmesan - the correct way for carbona.. Ours arrived dry. Hardly / or no sauce could be seen. When we said it wasn't correct they said 'the majority of customers..don't like egg so we don't use it-!'.which is nonsense! Without the egg it's not carbonara, its spaghetti with guanciale. Anyway we won't order again. We'll think about returning but probably just stick with ordering pizza.
Disappointed really that we'd gone in and not served what is clearly written on the menu. As said all other dishes were fine but I wouldn't advise coming here if you know your carbonara and wish to eat that. Also, will add ' glass of wine' is ridiculous small. Making these points so mgt can address if they wish and also customers can order...
Read moreAs a local, I go there a lot and I know they remember us and perhaps make a special effort. Having said that, if it's your first time there and they have a table for you, you'll get the same good service. I go there specifically for their steaks so I can only comment on that dish but they also make wonderful pizzas as my partner indulges from time to time. Service is friendly and quick and they'll cook your steak just the way you want it. Pizzas are cooked in a real Italian wood oven by people who understand pizzas. In fact, If I wanted a decent pizza in Jávea, this is where I'd go, no doubt. Limited selection of wines, wide range of deserts (tasty but not always homemade). Steaks come with sauces (extra €) but I don't recommend them as they don't appear to be homemade. Few chips and veggies on the plate are all you need and they come as standard with all steaks. If there's one thing I don't like is the Maitre d's habit of sitting in a corner observing everything, when he's not ushering people in and saying hello etc. He's very friendly and professional and should really ditch that bad habit of reading novels while his staff works. As frequent visitors, that really irks us. Having said that, I would strongly recommend this place...
Read moreDecided to pop in to this restaurant as the menu looked good and reasonably priced. We weren't disappointed. We had calamari for starter which was delicious - you could tell it was fresh! My husband chose the seafood calzone for main course and it was quite a spectacle with fresh shellfish on top! It was also packed with seafood. My son and I shared a rustico pizza which was equally tasty and plenty of toppings. The pizzas are quite big, so if you're having 3 courses it may be worth sharing. They're well prepared for this and bring out plates before meals arrive. The chilli oil on the table was a nice addition too.
The waiters were all very friendly and spoke English. Food arrived promptly and you can see the chefs working in the kitchen with a good view of the pizza oven.
We were looking around at other people's food and it all looked delicious.
Fabulous views of the...
