Where do I start… well, im not a hater and I view myself as an honest person. And in all honesty I still regret going there. Of course, the menu is huge, bigger than the “duty-free” section of Colombo airport. After devouring beautiful curries in other places, i thought I’d go for something western - so i chose the philly cheese stake sandwich at slightly chilled, also because their great marketing strategy which was “(this so good and tasty)”. Im a sucker for good marketing, and this one hit me where it hurts, my stomach that is, for the rest of the night was spinning more than your average washing machine.
Please, dont ever take it. The meat never had been a steak, more like a sole of a flip-flop. The “crunchy” bread had crusty sides that were as solid as the mountain the bar stands on (great view). Also the mushrooms they put in tasted like bike chains you couldnt chew through… oh so yea, pretty much bike chains.
Now, the guy serving - we all have bad days, and he wanted us to have one. Our presence was bothering the gentleman, 15 minutes of waiting before giving the menus when the place was half empty and oh yea, they might be cleaning the tables and chairs with glue, because we were sticking to the furniture against our will. For us and him the best thing that could happen was us leaving asap.
The plates and cutlery - i bet all my yugi-oh cards that a dog licking them would be cleaner than the ones we were given. I could easily tell what the guy before me ordered - thank god it wasnt the philly cheese steak.
The bathroom - the smell damaged the nerves in my nose followed by a slight headache.
The location and beer - nice. Told you im not a hater.
Oh yea, my friend got fried rice seafood - if you thought the philly cheese steak was not food for human consuption, the fried rice seafood should have had a warning sign under it. The marketing team clearly didnt meantion anything on that..
So, in conclusion - I am trying to forget this experience as much as I can and as a person who doesnt wish harm on others, i can only conclude that if you are really hungry and need a bite, and this spot is the only one open/closest just go to sleep, drink water and skip it, your mind, body and heart will thank me later. Dont get the flip-flop 0 effort cement bread sandwich just because you saw that cool youtube video, because we did and we are a cautionary...
Read moreThis is my first review of anything, unfortunately a bad one… but let’s get to it, because this is actually exciting, truth hurts, just like my stomach last few days.
Me and couple of friends arrived at this restaurant/dj set/cigarette lounge really hungry and first thing that hit us was the strong wind on my back from all the wind on the balcony. It did not matter where I sat down - it felt like I was a rogue 14 year old left alone on an oil rig in Antarctica.
Whilst, like a real eastern european citizen, I was shocked about 10 m/s wind, I noticed (with my upper thighs), the most insanely moist and sticky chairs in my life. Maybe it is some sort of a cultural thing, I don’t know. In the summary, wind wrapped the sticky chicken glue thing around me like a force shield - I felt a bit warmer and ready to order…
I would order, but the waiter just vanished for the first 15 minutes and returned with body language that indicated that he maybe wasn’t even working there?
Ok, we do the order, two Philly cheese steaks and fried rice seafood. At the end of ingredients for the cheese steaks, there were brackets that said - “really tasty!” I am a white person from Europe, so this is the greatest order hype in my life.
Murphy’s law was doing it’s thing - we got our food way after everyone else who came before us did. But that’s allright, great things take time…
First bite into the sandwich - it felt like the younger days, when I had all kinds of miscellaneous objects in my mouth. The bread was hard as a rock and meat was… well the meat was suspicious. My girlfriends fried rice with seafood was described as “playdooh” and “barely definable as a food”.
The beer was Ok and fries too, but they didn’t have any mayo, so two stars from me.
Maybe Philly cheese steaks are made just for Philadelphia, but what do I know… I know that Sri Lanka is...
