Happy Banana — Restaurant in Southern Province

We visited this restaurant for lunch after our hotel driver dropped us off following a long day of touring. The food was just okay not great, but it did the job. We sat outside by the beach, which was nice, but things quickly got uncomfortable. A random coconut seller approached us asking for a free cigarette (yes, seriously), and shortly after, one of the waiters did the same. but instead of asking politely, he just said, “Give me one.”

When it came time to pay, they insisted on cash, but we had none left, so we asked to pay by card. The waiter seemed annoyed and asked for a service charge, clearly wanting extra money, which they couldn’t tack on through card payment.

The next evening, we came back for dinner just because the view was nice and we hoped for a better experience. Sadly, it was a mistake. We ordered a burger and a Margherita pizza, which took almost an hour to arrive. When it finally did, the food was awful, especially the pizza, which was incredibly dry and almost inedible. We couldn’t finish it and asked for it to be packed to be given to TukTuk driver on the way back. Even transferring it to a takeaway box took about 10 minutes and the restaurant was nearly empty, with just one other table occupied.

The same waiter once again asked for a service charge, but we paid by card.

Overall, the experience was uncomfortable and disappointing both times. The food was below average, and the service felt unprofessional and pushy. Avoid this place...

Parking is not enough. Heavy traffic around the place. Good sea foods and BBQ. Nice bath in unawatuna beach. Lot of foreigners. Low cost. Average quality. Poor service. Boat rides, coral view and many more activities all over the area. Road is not capacity inough to exchange 2 vehicles. Parking capacity around the area is not enough. There are some spas around the place but not professional. Foot massage, full body, etc. But you cannot have proper relaxation from those. Because they are not professional. Nice place for having beer with quick bite. Delesuous sea foods available. There are less crowd in Rainey days. But indoor seating is available. Tents also there. Beautiful beach good for sea bathing. Safe place that you can bring your kids. Sand is quite tough comparing to the other beaches in Sri Lanka. Beware from jypsis, beach boys and other corrapted ppl. Very few but careful. Dogs that have no owners are all over the place. Careful on rabis. Changing rooms in the guest houses are not much comfortable but can not manage. No any comments changing rooms and toilets. Nice views in all over the day. Even in nights there are lot of things that you can enjoy. Lot of carokies, night clubs, activities are there. We went there on Friday evening, as we heard there is going to be good party at night, so after food we can stay there longer. We ordered some food and some beers around 8 pm. The portions were quite small, but ok grilled shark was really good. Then the waiter came back with the bill - he counted us 12 beers, when we had only 9 of them (for 3 people so I don't think we were drunk not to remember), so then he tried to convince us we drank more! He counted the price down (but didn't count from all, but already from price with 10% tip, so anyway he got more that he should get). Then we realized, he wrote down 600 LKR for one beer, when we thought it was 480 LKR. Why? He brought us night club menu as an evidence, so the prices were higher. We ordered around 8 pm and the party started only at 10 pm. Then he took money from us, went away and didn't give us back the change. He got so huge 10% tip and still tried to steal from us????
