We were served raw chicken...
Our starters were tasty, and served quickly. Good presentation and very tasty. Quite a few of the menu options were not available but we found something to our liking.
However, when the stuffed chicken came out my friend noticed it looked a little pink, and called a waiter over to check. The waiter insisted it was fine and was very dismissive, after a bite or two though it became very apparent the chicken was half raw - the middle was very pink and uncooked. On pointing it out again a second time, the waiter apologised and took it back to the kitchen.
Though we were offered numerous apologies and a replacement meal, we were a bit surprised to still charged full price for our meals and drinks, not offered any compensation at all for the fact my friend was served - and ate! - raw chicken. Made the apologies seem a little less sincere.
Overall, the rest of the meals were tasty and the location is really nice. Just maybe steer clear of...
Read moreLoved everything about Riddim (The Social). Welcoming restaurant for solo travellers. Went here for dinner on my first night, and for lunch on the second day. Good seating arrangements. They had some nice music going on. Extremely friendly and polite staff, they offer suggestions and drinks that go with the food. Chatura took my order, he is a very down to earth guy, spoke good english and, checked all the tables to make sure everything was going smoothly. (Cheers Chatura). The food - had the prawn burger for dinner. It came with a side of fries with spicy mayo, and ketchup. The burger was delightful, the prawn patty was crispy and well made. One of the best burgers I have had - paired well with a Lion beer. This is a must try if you are at Una. Had the chicken burger for lunch. Couldn't beat the prawn burger, but it tasted fresh and succulent. The setting here is great ; perfect ambience, good food and a lovely view to have a beer. Can't wait to go back for the...
Read moreWith the feeling of sand in-between your toes and starring out across Unawatuna beach, drink in hand, the screech of tuktuk horns fades away as quickly sun drops behind the horizon. Your attention is drawn to Dhanuka the head chef who prepares fresh fish on a grill that never stops, even in a power cut, (we experienced it and watched as the boys battled behind torch light). The simple ingredients smell quickly woft across the small patch of beach and melds with the sound of the waves. Shehantha, if you ask, will let you inspect the fish they have in for the evening and choose the size that you want. He has a fantastic eye for good fish so if he recommends something take it! The whole crew work extremely hard but seem so relaxed. They bounce along to the chilled out tunes with smiles on their face.
Take an evening off from the hustle of Galle, disappear down to Riddim and let the calming zen of Shehantha and his team take care of you while you enjoy this...
