For over twenty years I have been visiting Sri Lanka at least once a year and have eaten in hundreds of different establishments from high end to roadside shacks.
The Persian kitchen was a favourite of a European friend of mine who is a resident of Sri Lanka and he suggested we go
The nice looking restaurant is situated between the main road and the railway line. Booking is mandatory
The food was excellent. Simple food cooked and presented well. I really enjoyed the meal
However, the service and attitude of the staff was the worst I have ever experience anywhere. The restaurant was not busy but service slow, almost two hours for one course. Plates placed abruptly in front of us with no words or interaction from any of the staff.
Our bill which we asked for three times eventually dropped on our table by a surly waiter who said nothing other than when I handed him my debit card said ‘+3% for card’ The over 12 000/- bill for one small starter two main courses and four beers not cheap. I said I was not happy, and he disappeared.
Wanting to escape I then proceeded to the counter presented my card to who I believe was the lady owner and expressed my displeasure and faced a barrage of abuse. I told her to add the 3% paid and left. Was losing the will to live by then.
Worst restaurant experience ever in Sri Lanka and I will not be returning Shame as the food...
Read moreMy husband and I visited this place on our last day in Sri Lanka. Definitely 11/10 like that last reviewer mentioned. The beef kebab was incredible, cooked and seasoned to perfection. And the chicken as well. I love Persian food in general but this place was special. Even the hummus was good. I wish it came with two flatbreads instead of one (you get a generous amount of hummus), but you can always ask for more.
The portions are perfect, 250 grams for the chicken and beef and [I believe] the lamb kebab is 200 grams, which is understandable since it tends to be a little heavier/fattier. And it's all halal for anyone wondering.
We were full without worrying about leftovers and we definitely weren't looking to snack on anything after dinner.
We made reservations (they make this a point, so make a reservation beforehand. They book up quickly and need time to properly prepare the food for the amount of people at one time). The owners were very responsive and respectful of our time. We actually came early and they even let us order/eat early.
Bring cash! And an appetite. Pictures don't do this place enough justice - you need to come try it for yourself.
Glad we went out of our way to come to this place. Thanks for the...
Read moreI’ve been a customer at Persian Kitchen in Arugam Bay, Talpe , and now at their new branch. And I can honestly say—the kebabs here are the best I’ve ever had.
Over time, I’ve come to know the heart behind this place: Pouyan and Zohre, the couple who created it. Pouyan is not only a passionate chef, but also a photographer for National Geographic. His deep sensitivity to beauty and detail—shaped by years of capturing nature through his lens—shines in everything here. From the food to the music, from the paintings on the wall to the lighting and ambiance, every part of Persian Kitchen carries his artistic touch.
Zohre, his wife, is also an amazing chef. With her background in psychology, she brings a unique care and awareness to every guest. She notices the little things and makes you feel truly welcomed and understood.
Persian Kitchen isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a full experience, created by two people who combine taste, art, and heart in the most beautiful way. And if you’re also looking to connect with inspiring people, Persian Kitchen naturally brings together a vibrant network—entrepreneurs, artists, business owners, and long-time residents of Sri Lanka.
