This place is one of those which provided guilty pleasures to me and my fiancé many times in the past year. The restaurant it self is made out of clay and is loaded with antiquities. Lighting is dim and matches any Sri Lankan house hold back in the days. Inside has vast space with big tables that can accompany up to 6 people with long stools to sit on. For lunch they offer a large range of Sri Lankan curries (displayed in clay pots). You can select your protein, (Always pork for my fiancé) and up to five curries. Thing i like the most is they offer variety of vegetables that you would not be able to eat everyday but you know it to be tasty and more of all healthy. They serve you a healthy portion of Rice (white or red) and load you with curries and gravies. The cooler behind the food counter has a limited range of Juices and drinks including King Coconut. They also have a small Chinese food section, which comes in handy if you have a kid with you. Only concern i would have is the limited parking during lunch hour. Parking near the side walk can be dangerous as it is very close to the bridge. Keeping that in my I highly recommended this place to try out and it deserves one of those rare 5...
Read moreTOTALLY WORTH THE PRICE. Overall great food, not expensive and A LOT of options. The place is located by the side of the main road near the main road. Plenty of parking space. The restaurant is on the 1st floor. U can take the stairs or the elevator. The food was great. I had fried rice and chicken this time but I had rice and curry before and my friends had pork curry. We were all very satisfied with the food's taste and portion. Totally Worthit for the price. The fried rice tasted way above it's price ancld the chicken soup don't taste as a typical chicken soup and it has more grains and other ingredients added to it. You can pick the curries for your rice and curry and the choices are more than you can ever imagine. They have all the regular meat and seafood options pork and beef. They provide kola Kanda in the morning and soup in the evenings The atmosphere is excellent. The place is decorated as a typical shop at a village made of clay and coconut leaves. They have filled the place with antique ornaments, appliances and machines. Highly recommend if you are gonna grab a quick...
Read moreThe best place closer to Colombo to enjoy the authentic and delicious Sri Lankan cuisine. Family run business operational for about two decades now. Prices are reasonable and a great variety in curries, mains. You can select four vegetable curries (out of around twenty) for free and then the choice is protein. Lime and passion juices are frequent, sometimes coconut water and faluda. Choice of desserts include fruit salad and caramel. Washrooms are clean and spacious. We normally go for vegetable rice and curry along with separate portions of preferred protein. Tends to get pretty busy specially in weekends and holidays.
A special mention of the interior and the mood. It's virtually a museum of household equipment used decades ago, going back to colonial period. The dining area is built to give the feel of a village home and you can enjoy old Sinhalese songs along with the meals.
Sometimes owners themselves can be seen working in the kitchen and serving areas. Their efforts and dedication to maintain this wonderful authentic restaurant is...
