I recently had the pleasure of dining at White House in Negombo, and I must say, it was an experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for a memorable evening.

A quiet Sunday night dinner at White House with the family. Dishes tried were,

Batter Calamari: 6.5/10. (Masala on the batter was overpowering the subtle calamari taste was eluded. Probably fried in coconut oil also. The tartare sauce accompanying it was absolutely excellent but not necessarily matching the flavors of the calamari.

Prawn Cocktail: 7/10 (Excellent cocktail sauce,small prawns but could have been elevated if cabbage and veggies are mixed into the sauce with the prawns ).

Veggie Kottu Roti : 8/10. The prawn sambal is legendary and elevates the dish when mixed into the Kottu.

Mix fried rice: 7/10. The the dish used a short grain rice which was not something I am used to and therefore the low score. Although the flavors and fried mixed meats were top notch, the rice and strong coconut oil flavor was something I could not enjoy. But this is a personal choice.

Grill Jumbo prawn: 9/10. Excellent dish, perfectly executed.

400gm Crab Singapore sauce. 8.5/10. The crab was fresh and the sauce was really tasty and generous and served with Roti to mop it up. If you are ready to put the effort the reward is worth it. Although our server graciously helped to shell the crab when he saw our novice skills.

It was a perfect and memorable first experience in Sri Lanka thanks to Briton, Britto and the rest of the staff at The White House Seafood Restaurant. All of them are very welcoming people and there was no request that wasn’t accommodated. They always said “Yes” to everything I asked for. Since I don’t eat spicy food, they made sure that the Sri Lanka Style Crab Curry that I ordered was not spicy at all, keeping the unique taste with all the spices that I just loved it 😍😍 and the Coconut Crumbed Prawns were nothing else but delicious and fresh!!

It was amazing that I could have the local beer Lion in a Mexican style every time I ordered, I didn’t have to remind them after the first time I mentioned it.

The ambience is so chilled that you can go at any time of the day and you’ll feel comfortable either seated indoors or outdoors.

I would definitely recommend this place to go for a proper meal, for a couples of drinks or even to have shisha!! They have a vast selection of flavors and the prices of everything are very reasonable.
