Zic Zac Basel — Restaurant in Allschwil

We went to Zic Zac for my wife's birthday. We heard that its a decent place to get some good eats but I think people were pulling a prank on us. We arrived at 12:30 on a sunday and brunch was still going. It was kinda noisy but it seemed more like the place you go to with the whole family for the kids, because they were running around and screaming like crazy. But still, that didnt bother me really. When our waiter arrived we were kindly greeted and we ordered our drinks. We got these fun looking menu's in the form of old record sleeves which was a nice touch, I guess. Looking at the tables and wall decorations you'd see they were going for an American diner vibe. We went with three Surfin' Burgers and one Caesar’s Burger. We didnt have to wait long for our food so thats good also. The Surfin' Burger looked good. It was with bacon, egg and pineapple. It also came with french fries (freezer) and a mountain of salad with a weird colored dressing. The burger really tasted like nothing, except for the pineapple. Which is weird, there was so much on it but it just tasted 'meh'. The french fries were a bit too hard and bland. The salad felt warm. In general, it just wasn't good. Now im not a professional or even an amateur food critic but I know whats good and what is bad. And this was just plain bad. And when Belgian people ask for mayo, you bring'em mayo, stat! And 'stat' as in immediately! It never arrived however. The restaurant may be packed it wasnt a huge request... We also had to ask for the bill 3 times and after waiting for 10 minutes (and seeing our waiter check on other tables after we asked for the bill) we stood up and went to the register ourselves. Avoid this place at all cost.

Ok, visiting Zic Zac for a long time with friends of mine. Tried a lot food, drinks and was always happy. Nice personal, good atmosphere. What happened this Tuesday was a little over a line.

Cash register did not work - i am fine that, i can wait no issues. The waiter said, that it could take longer but we can still pay with card. So far so good. After i have ordered a Burger. Delivered to table, started to eat and after a few bites i found a piece of paper. I have putted on the side, continued to eat. I am not here to create any drama. After i finish, i just said to the lady, that she should look after the food, coss i found the paper in it. She didnt even said i am sorry, nothing, she said that today it is a exceptional and it might happend because nothing works (cash register, orders..).

Well, this doesnt work for me. I really do like this place but i found it a bit over the line and...

Spontaneous visit to this place with a friend to have a few drinks and dinner. We were greated and seated immediately (+) . Within two minutes the waiter came and brought us the menus and also took drink orders, he was vwry friwndly and as it was a hot day we appreciated the rapid service (+). As the drinks were fine, the disappointment started with the nacho starter. A plate covered with half broken nachos and three tiny dip bowls of store bought dips. Burger was fine - nothing spectacular. Sweet potato fries store bought. Wings were called buffalo wings but weren't spicy at all. Salad dressing too sweet and frankly tasted store bought. Overall this place isn't worth the money if you want to eat. Drinks, yes absolutely. Their slogan says Real Food - Good Mood. But this was far away from real food. 2 Stars for the...
