We loved the Waldhaus and would absolutely stay there again. It is just a short walk from the cable car to the hotel and we were warmly welcomed upon arrival. It is quaint and unique in design, and the interesting decor was fun to look at inside and out. The staff and owners were friendly and extremely accommodating. The food was beautifully presented, plentiful, and delicious. We arrived at the very beginning of the season and there were not too many local flowers around, but the owner made incredible displays with the tiny wildflowers that had begun to appear and they were spread around the dining area. The beds were comfortable (nightly treats were always found on our pillows after dinner!) and we all loved the showers that had great pressure! The view from the room was spectacular of snow topped mountains. The Matterhorn could even be seen in the distance from the comfortable and quiet side yard. Lots of sitting areas outside and the fireplace room inside made gathering with friends easy and enjoyable. My husband was suffering from a pinched nerve in his neck on arrival and decided to try their massage service to see if it would help. Although they didn't speak the same language, he was able to show what he needed and spent the rest of our trip pain free! The town of Bettmeralp was incredibly peaceful and full of beauty. The Waldhaus was a fabulous place to call home while we explored the area for...
Read moreThis charming small hotel has been owned by the same family for years. I stayed here for five nights in September with a hiking group. My huge room was very quiet, with beautiful carved wooden beds and wardrobe doors, a very modern bath with a deep tub, strong shower, perfect pillows and duvet. Lots of places to put luggage and to hang my many hiking clothes. My room had a private deck with a view of the Matterhorn at sunrise and lots of windows looking out at the forest. Mini-bar in room (I loved the paprika chips and local beer) and comfortable chairs, sauna and cold plunge are perfect after a day of hiking, next to a yoga room. The main floor has a cozy living room with fireplace, games and books, and a bar off the dining room. Enormous buffet breakfast, the owners have thought of everything before you even know you’d like it. Our dinners were out of this world. I look forward to bringing my family back here for skiing. The hotel also has a big sunny outdoor garden terrace with comfortable chairs and access to bar. Hotel is a short walk to tram to valley and train station, hotel staff brings your luggage up from the tram. No cars in the village, only a few electric buses and taxis and...
Read moreThe service provided at such a remote location in the Swiss Alps was absolutely phenomenal. We were a Road Scholar group of 17 individuals. The owners Daniela and Ernest and staff Lotti, Paula, Adriana, Lucia and the others went all out to make our 5 night stay unforgettable! From the cosy rooms with incredible views, to the beautifully decorated fireplace room in the common area, to the gourmet culinary offerings at breakfast and dinner, with a 5 course meal that would rival any James Beard/Michelin star restaurant in the United Sates, to the bar menu and the wine list, to the pillow options, to the turn-down service in the evening ... every detail had been anticipated and addressed. Coming down in the morning to a freshly brewed pot of coffee and the scent of freshly baked bread was a treat in itself. The options for "lunch-to-go" were wholesome and plentiful, including their divine lemon cake! It truly felt like a home-away-from-home! The staff helped us with the luggage to and from the cable car station, plied is with delicious local wine upon arrival and on our last day. Service was always accompanied with a smile. I will be back soon! Thank you...
