For my first visit to Switzerland, I couldn't have found a better place. Luigi came to pick me up at the airport saving the life of my wallet so to speak... I did not know Swiss taxis are World's most expensive. On arrival, I was bemused by the Auberge' s magic vibe, cinema paraiso enshrined in a gorgeous scenery. I loved the red Vespa (forgot the movie but I,think it was with Marcello Mastroianni?) the old typewriter... ||I was offered a welcome coffee while the room was being made. To be honest, I grew allergic to IKEA's square sinks & the universal cheap uniformity but, here, the rooms were Tastefully Decorated. All brand new with best bed linen. I am not a restaurant person, so used the nice kitchenette daily. Rosa found a filter coffee machine just after patiently waiting for me at the shopping mall for basic supplies. ||Tv channels were international, a refreshing change after Mallorca's well known All German selection. Not a breakfast person neither (black coffee and fresh toasts) but What I saw was splenderous. ||Last but not least, Marco is a prince treating guests like prince consorts. A truly professional gentleman. Ana is doing a great job with her Great energy. ||||There is only one review here. Not much. The auberge opened recently and people read reviews on the other site. For a reason, I am not offered the option to write the review there. I do it here. A tribute to Italian's best. 10. ||NB. Dyson AC was very useful. Swiss weather can be heavy.||||Thank you Marco,...
Read moreLovely clean room with a huge bed, Dyson cooler and a kitchenette. There was a hob but we didn’t realise it was there at first as a heavy wood board covered it and on top of that was glasses, cups and saucers. There was plenty of wardrobe space and shelves for our clothes. Soaps, towels and a hairdryer. Our dogs were made very welcome and it is a very pleasant location.||||I would have given this hotel an excellent rating but there were a few things wrong in the room (this was reported upon checking out) which should have been put right before we took on the room. ||||The breakfasts were brought to your room on a big tray, very odd. We missed having a pot of coffee, there was a coffee machine with three coffee pods (so only enough for 3 espressos - there were 2 of us!). You could request a time for breakfast but for 4 out of the 5 days it arrived an hour early. The day we wanted an early breakfast because we had an early appointment it turned up late despite 2 trips to reception to find out where it was. We didn’t have time to sit down and eat. ||||You have to walk through the large terrace restaurant to get to your room. This is okay if it is not during a meal time but other times you have to wend your way through diners and it must be worse if you have suitcases etc. ||||These are small blips which didn’t take away any of the enjoyment of our stay and we would...
Read moreWe booked this hotel room without realising that there was a restaurant attached. We stayed Sunday-Monday, and the restaurant is closed on Sunday nights, so we really can't comment on it, other than speculating that perhaps on other nights (with resto open), it's a lot less quiet. ||||The reason we're not giving our overnight stay 5 stars is because we had booked for 3 people, and when we got to our room at night it was only made up for 2. Breakfast (very basic, but obviously nice to be included in the room rate) was only served for 2. We paid Fr 171 for the one night, and given that we were in a very rural area, that was a little bit on the expensive side for us, hence 4/5 stars. ||||Here are all the good bits ||- spacious, clean room ||- comfortable bed and pillows ||- tastefully furnished with care||- lovely little balcony off the room||- breakfast delivered to the room ||- small kitchenette, with fridge, in the room to make a cup of tea at night||- easy to find and park the car ||- very friendly manager (not so friendly lady that we met upon arrival though - she only spoke Italian and wasn't even trying to be helpful in French or English) ||- very nice neighbourhood ||||We'd highly recommend the Auberge des Grands Bois and would stay here again when...
