I had the pleasure of dining at this extraordinary restaurant based on a glowing recommendation from friends who described it as the best culinary discovery in the Locarno region. I can now say, without hesitation, that their praise was absolutely justified.
To start, I enjoyed the Risotto Ticinaise, which was nothing short of exquisite – rich, perfectly creamy, and beautifully balanced in flavor. For the main course, I chose the Cacciucco, a traditional fish stew from Livorno. Words truly fail to capture how exceptional this dish was. Made with the freshest ingredients, each spoonful delivered a depth of flavor that was both comforting and refined.
The meal was further elevated by a thoughtful selection of wines that paired beautifully with each course. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food and service, which made the experience even more memorable.

Wir waren zu viert nach Auffahrt am Freitagabend gegen 7:30 Uhr dort. Service top, Rest Flop. Das Essen war mehr oder weniger eine Katastrophe. Wir hatten für 2 Personen gemäss Karte das Ross bestellt. Da hiess es jetzt, dass es nicht verfügbar sei. Ersatz war dann das Rind. Es wurde einmal 'medium-maxi' und einmal 'medium' bestellt. Für die beiden anderen Personen gab es Pizzen (Margeritha & Pugliese). Schon fast verhungert haben wir fast 2 Stunden darauf gewartet! Das Restaurant war knapp ein Drittel belegt. Dann kam endlich unser Essen. Thema 'medium' & 'medium-maxi' : medium war zu wenig durch und medium-maxi war eine Schuhsohle. Zudem fehlten noch Beilagen nebst den harten Spargelspitzen. Die angebotenen 250gr waren weit davon entfernt. Dafür wollten sie sFr. 42. Die beiden Pizzen : So schlechte Pizzen hatten wir noch nie gegessen. Unförmig, viel Teig (der Boden war steinehart, kaum durchzusägen) und wenig drauf. Hiefür wollten sie sFr. 20 plus grosses Bier sFr. 10. Ausser dem Service gibt es hier leider nichts Gutes zu berichten. Also aus unserer Sicht auf gar keinen Fall empfehlenswert....

EDITED: Caro proprietario come avevo già specificato nella prima parte della recensione vini sotto i 40 Franchi non ne avevate a detta della cameriera, il Merlot era guarda caso terminato!! A me purtroppo non ha chiesto nulla visto che ha parlato con TRE persone... Ne mancava una, il sottoscritto! Con la lista della spesa cambia poco, la carne era MEDIOCRE, da supermercato, un'offesa ai prodotti locali provati altrove nei giorni precedenti. Ripeto grotto mai morire onestà, qualità superiore, prezzi contenuti. Saluti e... passeremo ma alla larga! ;) Davide Laurenti

Il grotto mai morire offre una qualità decisamente superiore ad un prezzo molto inferiore e molto ma molto più onesti.
