Wirtshaus Alter Bären — Restaurant in Hofstetten bei Brienz

We have visited the Ballenberg Museum before and we will definitely come back again. There are three or four restaurants inside the open air museum.

The menu is not very varied as it’s quite traditional, but the staff is trying to accommodate any taste. You can eat tasty brat wursts or other traditional foods. There is a special kids’ menu (eg nuggest and French fries). The desert was my favorite, they have many options. I had the Engadiner Nussknacker and my partner had the Berner Seeländer. The staff was nice, kind and incredible fast.

We will for sure visit again...

They made us wait over an hour for sausage and fries, costing 100 CHF, while we sat at an empty table, outside, in 15 degrees. The waitress was rude, telling us, 'we're full.' If you're going to open a restaurant, maybe organise it in a way that it doesn't take an hour to prepare sausage and fries. There were only about five easy-to-make items on the menu. Such a shame we had to waste here 1,5 hours, while the park itself is fantastic. Bring your own food instead, this place does not...

Outdoor / Indoor nice Restaurant which serves Swiss cuisine and delicious meals. It uses one of the traditional houses from Alps. This restaurant is part of a 3 chain restaurant located inside Ballenberg, they all share the same menu. When it is busy it is OK to share the long bench table with other guests. It is a good place to have a lunch break, Coffee and desert while visiting Ballenberg. You should try their delicious ice cream....
