The find of a recent visit to Bern was this superb restaurant in the spacious restored hay loft of an old farmhouse on the city's outskirts. Haberbüni serves local produce in beautifully-presented dishes that marry tradition with a modern touch. We were there during game season and a dish of wild boar with chanterelles and wild herbs (including pine, spruce and wild garlic) was a stand out. I had the daily special - barbecue veal neck roast, a dark sauce (demiglace?), fresh seasonal vegetables and papardelle. The veal and the sauce were gourmet-level. This kind of dark sauce with roasting flavours is only served in high-level restaurants. The special also included soup and salad. For around CHF 30, this is more than fair. Service was impeccable. And that was just the start. Once we moved inside to the antique interior, we were greeted not only by creative furnishings, but another 3 courses of pure heaven.
