My husband and I visited Küsnacht, Switzerland because he is hoping to start studying at the C.G. Jung Institute, which is located there. The Romantik Seehotel Sonne was recommended to him by a number of people affiliated with the Institute. We were able to book a junior suite for our four night stay.||From the moment of our arrival, we felt very comfortable at the Sonne Hotel, although right now, their restaurants are both undergoing extensive renovations. We were fortunate enough to enjoy dinner at the restaurant on our first night, as well as a rich and plentiful breakfast each morning. Service was mostly good. My only comment was that on our last morning, a waiter took my plate while I was still eating. Fortunately, I was almost done, anyway.||Our room-- 310-- was marvelous. It had a very comfortable bed. I enjoyed the lovely views of the lake, as well as the views on either side of the room. It was huge, and beautifully appointed. Bear in mind, though, that the elevator doesn't stop on the level that room is in. To access it and the suite below it, one must climb up or down half a flight of stairs. It isn't a good choice for anyone with mobility issues, although we managed fine.||The bathroom was nice, although the room has a bathtub/shower combo, rather than a walk in shower. Again, this could be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. I did like the toiletries offered, which were of good quality.||The Sonne is located right next to a boat stop, so it's very convenient to hop on a shuttle boat to get to the city. There's also a train station nearby, as well as several good restaurants. Having stayed in Zurich, I appreciated the peace and quiet of Küsnacht, and the more residential vibe there. ||Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily book there again. If I could, I would award 4.5 stars. The staff was very nice, and the beautiful views from our room provided so much entertainment. I could have watched the lake all day and enjoyed myself, plus gotten...
Read moreI loved how this hotel retains its history within elements of the building, with beautiful storytelling and it's link to art. I stayed in the newer part opposite the main building, where my room directly overlooked the lake. Amazing views, quiet with clean and comfortable rooms. Wonderful bath, shower and modern products (and lavender bath salts). The bed was abnormally comfy and the pillows were amazing. There was a card which gave you alternative options too. Speaking from someone who is quite picky with where to stay, I can highly recommend. There is a small, very clean and well equipped gym downstairs. Wonderful sauna and steam room next to it. Robes and slippers in the room for use. The hotel is so close to Küsnacht station, meaning getting Zurich centre or the airport is very easy and painless. The train transport in general in the area is great. The breakfast was fresh with light options as well as more indulgent sweet choices. The reception staff were very friendly and super helpful. The boat dock is also right outside, sadly I didn't get to take a trip on the lake, but worth it for sure. I stayed in December, meaning it has a cosy wintry vibe with the lights and atmosphere. I believe if you had a car, there is lots of space and would be...
Read moreSonne has been our goto every time we go to Zurich. The last two times something has changed. Not very much, more subtle. It is not as cosy as it used to be. The welcome notes that were handwritten with a welcome back are now printed. No manager walks around, greets you and ask how you are etc. Talked with a fellow guest that also is a long time customer and he had the same feeling. Nothing big but still there. And then the restaurants. We often chose the Stübli for a nice mixed salad and a flamkuchen. The menu has shrunk so they are not there any more. And in the other restaurant, the more fancy one the menu also has shrunk and some of the "go to´s" as a nice mixed salad, a fish soup etc are gone and instead there are things that read in the menu are worthy a Michelin star restaurant but are not up to this when the food comes to the table. Things are marinated, soaked, lot of strange textures and tastes that do not work together and the courses are overworked. It would be much better to be a bit more basic and clean. All working at the hotel are wonderful, the beds comfy, it is spotlessly clean, the bathrooms a bit outdated and our room, 212, spacy, airy though a...
