There are different dining areas, I prefer the old rooms with the low ceiling and the few tables in one space. Of course there are others who like the loud and chatty atmosphere, not for me thank you.
The individual dishes are prepared with an intense level of attention and care. The service is very good, though I prefer waitresses and waiters to be dressed more discretely, less like young fashion conscious individuals, we are not guest in a restaurant to focus on how the waiting service is dressed.
While the selection of wines is superb and the economic logic of such restaurants is clear, there is something asymmetric when the food is relatively cheap in comparison to the wines, which, while having been seleccted by the sommelier of the restaurant, nevertheless renders the work of the kitchen significantly less valuable.
It was therefore interesting to see the regulars refraining from drinking wine altogether and opting for either beer or water.
It should also be noted that the community of Kilchberg, that owns the historic building, has rented it to the restauranteur at a...
Read moreThis is a very nice traditional swiss house with amazing views to the lake Zurich that has been renovated.
The menu is a one pager with several starters and several main dishes, with all kinds of flavor combinations. And they have a closed price for a 2 starters, a main and a dessert (drinks not included).
The food was excellent: very well cooked and nicely presented. To be honest is the first time in 10 years that i see foie (duck liber) offered in a restaurant, almost no swiss person i know has ever heard of foie or even paté. The service was nice, although a tad slow. The starters took at least 15min to come, and from the second starter to the maim it took around 25min.
The price is high, but you won't find this kind of food in many places, with so many well-thought, properly cooked,...

The inside of the restaurant had a warm and cozy feeling and even though settings felt traditional Swiss, Restaurant Oberer Mönchhof had a number of different dishes from Chef Thomas Bischof that had a modern twist to them including a 4 course tasting menu. We started our meal with a roasted duck liver and apricot cream to go with the toast. My favorite was the yellowfin tuna with a chorizo mayonnaise paired with mediterranean cous cous with a side of pomegranate and avocado wonton. There was a lot of elements in the dish but some how they all seem to work quiet well together, from the spiciness of the chorizo, to the sour of the pomegranate and the crunchiness of the wonton. The tuna was cooked perfectly of course. I love wondering around and find amazing...
