Following our train journey from Basel to Lauterbrunnen and then the cable car to Murren, we were absolutely stunned with the beauty that was awaiting us in Murren. A beautiful and bright sunny day and thick snow everywhere, it was heaven on earth ! After exploring Murren for about 2 hours, we were pretty hungry and decided to eat at Edelweiss. We were warmly welcomed and as the terrace tables were fully occupied we sat indoors. This was a boon in disguise - as we were comfortable in the heated indoors and yet could get a view of the snow capped mountains around us 😀 Our server - Juhrij (apologies if I got your spelling incorrect) was very, very polite and extremely helpful. His suggestions on the wine selection were super - a glass of Rose and a glass of Fendant - both very good in terms of taste and the serving temperatures. Next we ordered the Edelweiss Rosti and the Deer Burger. Both these were perfectly prepared and very tasty, indeed. And of course, we had to have their Apfel Strudel - which was delicious 😋 Kudos to the entire team on the restaurant floor as well as the kitchen for keeping the food and drinks flowing inspite of almost all the tables being occupied. The fantastic weather definitely brought in hordes of visitors, but this team was working like a well oiled machine. Superb 👌 I will definitely make it a point to return here ! Keep it up and...
Read morePROS: The views are spectacular. I mean, wow! Service was nice, overall, and pretty good. Another positive. Finally, the menu notes allergies! As a celiaque, I truly appreciate this. CONS: We had to ask for a menu when the waiter came by to take our order. He brought 1 menu for 2 of us. I guess they ration here. I had to go and get a second menu for myself. We overheard another table asking for another set of silverware. Apparently, they charge for extra silverware (perhaps a sharing charge would be more appropriate). You are allocated silverware and 1 small paper napkin. We were put off from asking for another paper napkin. They also charge 5 CHF for a carafe of water. This was off-putting. I mean we ordered 2 full meals, water being charged was really a money grab at that point. My husband's hamburger was from a frozen patty. Which is OK , but not for what they charge. My roti was ok as well. Food quality, taste, and value take last ranking place from all we have eaten on our European trip. Finally, I'm not sure I liked being asked to leave a tip when they bring the bill and payment box. I recommend that you come here for the views, and order a couple of drinks. Pass on food and water. By the way, I overheard the waiter tell the next table there is a minimum 30 CHF charge for credit card use....
Read moreI hardly complain about food because when I am hungry I am very tolerant. But if you pay this price you expect the food to be at least acceptable. We ordered pizza and burger. They are extremely salty. Nothing else but salty. I doubt whether the pizza is pre-made frozen one because the burger is simply a catering snack bar frozen fake burger, not made with grounded beef. Glad I have seen other reviews complaining about the same. I am shocked for this high price and extremely low quality and taste. We hardly finish the food and regret so much because it does not worth for every penny. We were there in a raining evening. I can imagine if you have meals at the terrace with the view it will be much more better but only the view, spare the food. The owner should seriously improve the food quality starting from using frozen food! The bottom line is there are little restaurants in Murren. Many day tourists so if you stay there better rent an apartment and cook yourself. The next evening we made cup noodles with ham, veggies and eggs in the hotel room😇After Murren we have stayed only apartments in Switzerland. The swiss food wont even get a passing grade from me. Greasy, over flooded with cheese and cheese. For ski holiday I could try it once. But I still love the unbeatable sceneries in 🇨🇭. You can...
