Visited St. Moritz over the weekend and stayed at the hotel that’s just above the restaurant. The family-owned hotel restaurant has a very lovely and rustic interior, set in a historic Engadine house from the 17th century. Really cosy and traditional vibes.
Located at Samedan, a small and quiet town that’s 10-15 minutes away from St. Moritz, but business was bustling and the restaurant was fully booked for the weekend. However they managed to accommodate my last minute dinner reservation request on my last evening here.
The staff were really warm, friendly and hospitable, and they were very patient and helpful with recommendations of their homemade ravioli (a variety of different recipes) and other dishes that they offer on their menu - there’s an English menu, do ask for one if you need it.
Started with the Engadiner Gerstensuppe (Engadine barley soup) - had a small serving which they suggested so the meal wouldn’t be too filling for me. For the mains I had the Ravioli Valtellina (Swiss chard, savoy cabbage, garlic, onions, Casera (cheese), sage butter and dried sliced beef). Both dishes were absolutely tasty - the soup was light and simple yet flavourful, and the ravioli was rich in flavour yet not too overpowering.
Had some of their local beers as well. The La Pus'ciavina Cuntadina buckwheat special ale paired really well with the ravioli (based on their recommendations) and the Engadiner Palu Amber beer was nice and refreshing to drink.
It was very crowded and busy at the restaurant, but the staff were attentive and all smiles (even the customers as well), and their service was absolutely impeccable! I had a really wonderful time during my weekend here, and would love to stay and dine here again at Central if I visit Switzerland and St. Moritz in the future - 10/10 and I can’t recommend enough, thank...
Read moreMy experience in this hotel was back in Oct 2024. Originally i planned to have a short trip to Europe mainly for the football match friendly between Liechtenstein and Hong Kong. I found this the best opportunity to visit my friend (Hongkonger) who has been living in Swiss, specifically this hotel for a few years as she’s married to the owner of this hotel.
After visiting Zurich, Colmar, Eguisheim, Strasbourg, I took the train to Samedan and my friend and her husband came to the station and picked me up. Although I arrived late night, they were so kind and drove me back to hotel when there were still customers in the restaurant. Besides, I was served with a couple of dishes as well as beers and wines! Dishes are very delicious and I believe the chef here is one of the best in Swiss.
The next morning, I was served with traditional Swiss breakfast. As my friend and her husband had some free time before restaurant opens that day and therefore they spent time taking me up the mountain via tram. Stunning view I would say at the peak! We had the lunch at a restaurant there and then we returned to hotel afterwards. Before I left for Zurich to take the flight back to Hong Kong, I was again served with nice soup and also the classic Swiss drink called Ovomaltine (or Ovaltine in English). Owner’s mum had tried to showcase the use of the Ovomaltine machine to produce the Ovomaltine. In fact, this machine has over 60 years of history and it’s my honour to taste the Ovomaltine produced from this machine.
Although I could only spend one day there, it’s for sure one of my best hotel experiences in Europe (you may argue we are friends but I know she and her husband and also his parents do have good attitude on everything and they are super nice and kind) and I would highly recommend you all when you...
Read moreThis restaurant is absolutely spellbinding. My girlfriend and I visited last winter, and we came again this winter. If I can have it my way, I’ll go again next winter (if not sooner)! We went twice on our short time in the Engadin this winter alone!
The food is deliciously homemade, and the Jägerravioli is an experience like no other. The flavors, the texture.
Also Juliana is incredible and deserves the highest praise. I asked about the history of the building, and she quickly provided a photobook of it through the years with some added history she knew! A treat on top of a treat.
If this restaurant were located near me, I’d go every day. Don’t pass up the...
