After a break of nearly a year I returned to Anna again for dinner last night. This time my friend and I took the four course menu and I had the full accompanying wine selection.
I can only really repeat what I wrote last year. Excellent out-of-the-ordinary food, excellent well-paired wine and excellent service. The bread and welcoming/parting gifts were as tasty and generous as last time too. The only problem with the bread is that it is difficult to resist, partly because it is delicious in itself and partly because it helps to balance the intense flavours of the food.
Our meal was great value for money considering the quality and quantity of the food and wine. Obviously this is not a budget restaurant and probably one most people would reserve for special occasions.
I'm sure I'll find an excuse to return sooner next time!
My third visit to this restaurant was on 4 March 2022.
Every course of the six-course dinner that my friend and I enjoyed was fantastic. Each one was imaginative, extremely tasty and attractively presented. The seasonal cocktails and the different wines we sampled with the various courses were of very high quality too.
During both lunch and dinner the service was very attentive and cheerful without being at all over-powerîng. We never felt hurried, even after an incredible six hours (!!!) in the restaurant. Having arrived at 18.30 we finally left at 00.30.
Contrary to one or two reviews on tripadvisor, I found the portions more than large enough, especially given the intensity of the flavours, the fact that there were six courses and the plentiful supply of delicious home-made bread rolls and creamy butter.
The amount I paid for the dinner was very reasonable indeed considering the quality of the food/drinks, the very generous welcome/parting "gifts from the kitchen" (three per person in each case), the plentiful free bread/butter and the minimal charge for water.
A final thing to mention is that we were never encouraged to drink more wine than we really wanted. In the end our drinks bill, including around 2 litres ofwater and five coffees, came to around a quarter of the total. Quite unusual these days.
I will most certainly...
Read moreWe were finally happy to have found such a nice location near our home to bring the guest that often visit us and really were looking forward to the nice looking food. Then the waitress came and asked us in a polite way to tell the children not to play but rather sit on their chairs. I politely told her that i will try, but can not promise that because I would never force my children to SIT as adults or even worse, give them a phone to watch some youtube, just because they don't like children. The waitress said that they would disturb the guests outside while running, even though there was just a couple at the table and they never said anything.
Long story short, the waitress told us 3 times that the children should stop playing and at the end, the manager/owner came and tried to explain again while saying that the wooden chairs would cost 600 CHF a chair and once a child broke a glass so they don't like children to play inside or outside. SHE EVEN SAID THEY SHOULD PLAY ON THE STREET BECAUSE it is a 30 KMH zone so there is no danger. At the end she literally invited us to never come back again because " maybe this is not the right restaurant for us"... really sad cause the food and ambience are very nice but parents with free children, think of the story above before going there and if you go, prepare your iphone to make them sit in front of it.
I am sure the manager will read this so I am writing to her again what i nicely told her: If you ever wish to have children and will have them, think of what you told to me when you go in a...
Read moreWow, what an amazing place. When looking up the address on the map, we weren't quite sure this would be the restaurant that we had seen pictures for and heard about. Even when we came into the area, we wondered if and how there could be a restaurant in such a residential area. But the restaurant was indeed there. And it exceeded all of our expectations.
This is not a traditional venue; it is far better. The restaurant is on the ground floor in a very recent construction and it benefits from floor to ceiling glass, and very high ceilings. It is nicely decorated with wooden floors and simple wooden tables.
As we were appealed by every item on the menu, we went for the 4 course surprise menu which lets the chef determine what we should be served. I don't want to ruin the surprise, even though I assume the content of which will change over time, but it was a wonderfully thought menu mixing lamb, cauliflower, home made ravioli (my favourite in the course).
The service was impeccable with friendly and diligent staff, always smiling and caring for our every need.
I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here, and we will be back for sure. I would even rate this restaurant ex-aequo for best restaurant in Zurich in my books. Zurich needs more places like these; chic but not pretentious, reasonable size, creative, delicious, friendly, and somewhat affordable.
Well done to all the...
