I visited Democracy Turkey Rice in Chiayi and was excited to try what many say is the best turkey rice around. The service is straightforward, though it can be a bit challenging for foreigners as there’s no English menu and the staff don’t speak English. However, with the help of Google Translate, I was able to navigate the menu.

The turkey rice here is absolutely the best I’ve had. The turkey is cut into perfectly bite-sized pieces, and they coat the rice with turkey fat or pork fat, which adds an incredibly rich and savory flavor that sets it apart from other places. This turkey rice turned out to be my favorite out of the two (compared to Ah Hong Shi)!

I felt the chicken here was leaner and the drizzle was just Goldilocks (not too greasy, not too dry). Looking back at the photos, I could see more chicken here than rice compared to the other one, and I didn’t know that small slice of daikon would make such a difference!

Service was as expected and I appreciate that despite the long queue outside, they didn’t chase me out by clearing the bowl as soon as I finished; I’m a slow eater and was looking up the next place on the map.

The space felt a little too cramped for my liking but from what I gathered, turkey rice restaurants here are pretty much like fast food joint, so any queue would be fast-moving.
