Very hard to say this is a 5 star restaurant experience, even though I was hoping it would be. The food is certainly excellent, but the service and the process of ordering is not.
When you walk up and enter the restaurant you pick out the skewers that you want to be cooked for your order, and it's quite difficult to determine in some cases what exactly you are ordering. As someone who doesn't speak Mandarin Chinese, I recommend getting one of their English menus that's located close to the seafood before getting any of the skewers so that you can get an idea of the price of your food.
Afterwards, fill up your tray with what you'd like to order (and for the seafood that's market price, ask for how much those skewers are), and once you're ready, go ahead and hand your tray over and ask to see how much your order is as of handing in your tray. You can add on to your order later, but if you're trying to track the price, this helps. Being able to check off what you want from a menu would have been much less stressful of an ordering process.
A small complaint as well is that our service was less than desirable. We waited for our squid for 15 minutes after finishing our other skewers, and asked a waitress about it, and when we did get our squid she brought us two orders. She had thought that we had ordered another, and we firmly turned down this second order when it was brought to us.
Away from the complaints, the majority of the skewers were very good. The pork and specifically the bacon skewers were all very good, and the beef green onion skewers were excellent. The sausage and tofu skins were the biggest highlights of all. Highly recommend all these skewers if you go.
Regardless of service issues and a stressful ordering process, I think this place is well worth a visit for the quality of food alone, and for the most part very fair prices (granted, some market priced seafood is expensive), and would recommend...
Read moreFirst night in town and with over 10k reviews, had to see what the buzz was about at this modern izakaya. First process was selecting our dishes through a sliding glass door outside the store was unique, though it could be a wait on busier nights. We tried a variety; including pork wrapped veggies, diverse tofu selections and savory sausages, and perfectly sautéed vegetables. The live shrimp (7 pieces) didn't disappoint either. Skillful grillers seasoned each item with sauces with a flawless cook. Each table has spicy red pepper and wasabi seasonings added a personal touch to the flavors. The tequila cocktail with a plum twist was decent, but I’d recommend pairing these dishes with beer instead. Overall, a must-try spot for its excellent food presentation and...
Read moreMy fave izakaya in the town. The quality of the products is fresh and I love that you can choose what you want to eat yourself. Dine in is much better as you can enjoy the food freshly prepared but they are very busy on the weekends so make a reservation or be prepared to wait. When I came on the weekdays I could just walk in but the weekend I ended up doing take out but they didn't call out my number when the food was ready so it sat for a little bit and was quite cold by the time I ate it :/
Overall I would def recommend coming here. Very nice selection of fresh veggies, tasty chicken skin and bean curd skin plus fresh seafood options to grill...
