Interesting concept with great need for improvements. For now, just an overpriced pseudo-European bistro.

AMBIENCE. Thumbs up. Essential yet cozy bistro-style environment. Not the best view during the day, but definitely classy at night. Clean and shiny. Thumbs down for the rough paper napkins (soft ones would not be a big investment) and wine glasses (wrong ones).

SERVICE. Kudos to the staff. Attentive yet discreet, polite and ready to provide additional information. We asked to be served course by course rather than all-in-one and they agreed eagerly. Wine poured in the right quantity.

FOOD. Even score: two nicely done and two disappointing. SPANISH-STYLE PRAWNS (appetiser). Failed attempt to recreate gambas pil-pil. Too much oil, too little garlic. Bread provided but useless because the oil was almost tasteless. It wouldn't have happened with a quality one. Only the prawns considered alone were good. PASTA ALLA PUTTANESCA. Nothing to do with the Italian recipe that it borrows the name from. Just a Taiwanese fried noodle dish with uncooked hard zucchini, pieces of cherry tomatoes, canned mushrooms (they should be fresh for this price tag) and tasteless prawns. The pasta is factory-made and average quality (it's a known exported brand). Unforgivable not to hand-make it, considering that the restaurant even has an annexed bakery with all the required ingredients and machinery. A disaster. RISOTTO WITH SEA URCHINS. This is exactly what I expected from the restaurant: a unique European/Asian fusion experience. Italian rice cooked and made creamy to the right texture plus Taiwan-style spices and fresh seafood. Amazing. TIRAMISU. Faithful to the original Venetian recipe with biscuits made spongy by liquour, mascarpone cream and chocolate powder. Rare to find it this good in Asia. Kudos.

DRINKS. Lemon water provided with refills by the attentive staff: a pleasant touch. The wine selection is good, either by glass (limited to two types) or by bottle. Good tea, either iced or hot. Pity for the coffee: sour and...

Lorsque je suis allé visiter la célèbre Rivière Love de Kaohsiung, située dans le district de Renwu, je suis passé à côté d'une pâtisserie qui avait l'air assez haut de gamme de par le cadre et le service. J'étais très intrigué. J'ai consulté les avis sur Internet qui étaient effectivement très bon, presque du même niveau que "Wu Pao Chun" quant bien même il n'est vraisemblablement pas aussi connu. Il n'existerait d'ailleurs que dans la ville de Kaohsiung, il n'y a pas d'autres pâtisseries à son nom dans d'autres villes. J'ai donc décider de retourner dans le coin quelques heures plus tard pour tester cette pâtisserie qui donnerait très envie. :D

Quand j'y suis retourné en fin d'après-midi, j'ai choisi mes pâtisseries et je me suis assis pour consommer sur place. Un des deux mecs assis à côté de moi s'est immédiatement adressé à moi en anglais pour me demander d'où je venais (j'ai l'habitude à Kaohsiung 😅 ). Sur le coup, en prononçant mal le mot « France », il m'a demandé si c'était à côté de Dubaï. 😁 J'adore, on me prête de nombreuses origines là-bas que l'on ne m'a jamais prêté à Paris. 😂 Puis, Inès est arrivée à l'autre bout de la salle, et je l'ai plus discuté qu'avec elle qui s'est déplacée vers moi. Je me suis ainsi fait une nouvelle amie taïwanaise. :)

Distrait par la conversation, je ne me souviens plus précisément du goût de ce que j'ai mangé (comprenez-moi, hein ? 😥 ) mais c'était vraiment pas mal. En fait, sur les trois pâtisseries que j'ai achetée, il n'y en a qu'une seule que j'ai mangé sur place. J'ai rapidement mangé les deux autres sur mon trajet du retour étant donné que j'avais du retard pour le restaurant qui m'attendait avec un autre ami taïwanais.

Il s'agissait, comme pâtisserie consommée sur place, si je ne m'abuse (et je m'excuse auprès du personnel si je fais erreur), d'une sorte de tarte au citron façon mont blanc. Oui, dit comme cela, c'est très étrange, force est de constater que ce fut un style de tarte que je n'avais jamais mangé auparavant mais bien faite. Esthétiquement, elle était déjà très belle. Sur le plan gustatif, elle était légère, pas trop sucré avec un goût peut-être discret du citron avec sa crème de marron et sa meringue. Très belle création. 👍

Puis, sur le retour, j'ai mangé une pâtisserie visiblement plus typique taïwanaise. Elle avait l'allure d'une tartelette sauf d'une petite brioche avec une sorte de dacquoise sur le dessus et fourré à la compote de pommes. Rien à dire, je suis toujours autant fan des pâtisseries briochées de Taïwan qui ne me déçoivent jamais.

Enfin, et là cela devenait intéressant, je me suis attaqué au croissant aux amandes, grand classique de la pâtisserie française et plus facile à évaluer pour un Parisien tel que moi. 😎 "Wu Pao Chun" m'avait bluffé par la qualité de son croissant digne de faire partie des meilleurs croissants de Paris. Allais-je être autant bluffé par celui de "La One" ? Taiwan regorge-t-elle de plus de bons croissants français qu'on ne le croit ? Clairement, non. "Wu Pao Chun" est encore loin devant. Le croissant était sec avec un feuilletage moyen voire un peu rance. Le croissant n'est de toute évidence pas ce que cette pâtisserie fait...

The bakery has bad customer service. Google maps show the bakery opens at 8am today. I went there at 9:40am. The staff said they were not open and can't order takeouts of a cheesecake. I waited until 10am and they opened. I asked if the cheesecake product ID has any inventory, they said it's out of stock. They failed to manage their Google business and failed to provide proper customer service. They should've verified inventory stock during the first customer engagement. I dined on the 2nd floor last week. The food was mediocre. The French duck was hard to chew like rubber. Unlike what you get in Paris France. They added rice to the duck which was unprofessional. No French food would have rice with duck. It was fake. THe price was 3900 for 4 people. At that quality, they only deserve 900 for 4 people. I should have returned the food and requested the refund but the other parties already ate it. The soup was also not impressive. It tasted like canned soup from Walmart. Smoothie taste good, I hope they washed the peel before adding it :)

Overpriced fake French cuisine. Plating is quite good, so the pictures look deceiving. The salad was interesting with the fish roe, but flavoring was blend. The shrimps were not as fresh, as my lips felt a little tingling (allergic reaction). The lamb was undercooked and overcooked at the same time. It was cooked at not high enough temperature for way too long. That shows the kitchen staff has no understanding of how to prepare lamb. The sauces were some kind of premade paste from some bottles. For what they’re charging, it’s highway robbery. I don’t even think they have a rudimentary understanding of French cuisine.

The shrimps were not as fresh, as my lips felt a little tingling (allergic reaction). The lamb was undercooked and overcooked at the same time. It was cooked at not high enough temperature for way too long. That shows the kitchen staff has no understanding of how to prepare lamb. The sauces were some kind of premade paste from some bottles. For what they’re charging, it’s highway robbery. I don’t even think they have a rudimentary understanding of French cuisine.
