This luxury hotel is pretty much brand new and currently the only Marriott property in Kaohsiung. In general, I like this hotel and highly recommended either for business, staycation, or vacation. Details follow:||1) Location: the location is perfect, it's exactly in the middle of everything although I'm not recommend walking with your luggage from Aohzidi station to the hotel because the pedestrian path is a bit messy and not luggage friendly. The hotel is situated in soon-to-be a new multi-purpose area for residential, commercial, and business. There's a E Sky Mall attached next to it, Costco also located next to it, and there's another building which connected to a sky bridge which I assume it could be another commercial or recreation building. Anyway, it will be interesting to see this area in the next few years. ||2) Lobby/Reception: as I expected, the lobby screams luxurious with a mixed of brown/white marbles and gold accents. I was checking in on the 25th Dec which very busy and a bit chaotic to be honest. Until I reached out to the front desk, the associate told me to do the check-in process in the executive lounge which I wish they should've made this clear maybe by putting a written announcement near the check-in desk or the concierge staff could've told me when they showed me the front desk. It's a small hiccups but anyway, check-in at the executive lounge was smooth. The associates there are nice and friendly. I did not get an upgrade during my stay as maybe there's too many elite members checking in. However, the standard deluxe room is huge enough for me along (more on this later). ||3) Room: As I have mentioned, the standard room is huge at 48 sqm, so if you're travelling with families, you shouldn't have any issues. The room also scream luxury with a lot of marbles as the main interrior. The bathroom is also big, complete with a decently-sized bathtub. Decent size living space that offers enough plugs and connectivity if you need to do some work. The bed is comfy and all the lighting controls are accessible easily from the bed which is great. My room facing the north part towards the Sky Garden and the E Sky Mall, the view is nice BUT I do wish the window size could've been larger. Room has a decent soundproofing and it's very quiet at night. By the way, if you're elite member, you'll get the free minibar although keep in mind that is for your whole stay, they did not replenish every day. ||4) M9 Buffet Restaurant: Breakfast is served at M9. The buffet has a lot to offer, it spreads nicely, but honestly the food quality is mediocre. The holiday crowd also can be a bit chaotic, it literally took me awhile to browse and decide something that I want because I also have to navigate through the crowds. I do wish they could do something like dividing the crowd into a specific timeslots especially during holiday season.||5) Executive Lounge: having breakfast in the lounge is a different story. Yes the options are limited but you'll have more personalized service and more relaxed experiences with less crowd. The lounge also offers happy hour where they served a decent options of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages together with light meals and desserts. The associates here are always nice, friendly, and helpful. The view from the lounge is something that you shouldn't miss especially when the weather is good and not hazy. ||6) Other aspects: there are plenty of facilities in this luxurious hotel, however, I did not manage to tried them all as I'd rather to go out and exploring the city. Housekeeping done a great job cleaning up the room, turndown service is also available. One thing that I felt missing is the lack of elite recognition, I did not receive any welcome note with welcome amenities etc. which is kind of expected for premium brands. Also they could've done a better job by proactively giving notice to elite members that check-in process is done at the executive lounge so I did not wasting my time waiting at the front desk and they told me later after they actually see my status on their booking system. ||Anyway, despite the small hiccups, I still recommend this hotel to stay in Kaohsiung if you need to feel luxurious in any occassions. I do still hope that they do a better job in welcoming and recognizing...
Read moreWe stayed here as a family just after Chinese New Year and were travelling with two elderly members (both over 80 years old) as well as two young children (7 and 11 years old). The hotel rooms were spacious, comfortable and offered nice views of the city.
The service however is bellow par for what one would expect from a 'luxury hotel' especially in Taiwan's third largest city. First of all, almost none of the staff were confident in speaking in English and most of the time were only able to reply in Chinese and so if you do not speak Mandarin, this is a problem.
Travelling with elderly and young children is not always easy and this hotel did not seem to accomodate those with specific needs. When visiting the restaurant for breakfast, we were told, since my nephew didn't want to eat anything from the buffet, he was not allowed to sit with us in the restaurant and so we had to leave him upstairs in the room! Luckily we were travelling with a carer and so she was able to look after him whilst we were all downstars in the restaurant. The price of the breakfast buffet is considerable when you consider that in Taiwan there is an array of other choices outside and nearby. It also seems rather unreasonable that a hotel like this one doesn't offer any kind of la carte menu for those who eat less (elderly citizens/young children) but would still prefer joining their family for breakfast. When I asked if there was this option the male Breakfast manager told me a la cart was only availble through room service.
The hotel is situated within a large shopping mall complex and does offer free parking when customers provide thier liscence plate numbers with Front Office, however my Brother's family experienced two ocasions where their car was blocked from exiting the car park during our stay and upon leaving the hotel after check out.
Finally we experienced issues with the lights in our room late at night, whereby the strip light below the television was not able to be switched off. When we called the service line to report the issue, the Front Office staff seemed already able to guess why we were calling and the staff from the engineering department were at our door within a minute, which gave the impression that this is a common issue. After bringing in a ladder and two staff members removing a pannel from the ceiling, they told us that this issue could not be resolved and they were only able to switch off the fuse for all of the additional lights. The staff members informed us that they would let us know tomorrow when someone would come to fix the light, however there was no follow up at all the next day.
Needless to mention I was amazed when we checked out and no one asked us how our stay was... and I do...
Read moreOur stay at the Marriott in Kaohsiung has been the absolute highlight of a 3-week Asian tour through Japan, Taiwan, and China. The experience was exceptional from the moment we arrived. The service was impeccable, setting a new standard for hospitality.
The hotel, newly opened and grand, exudes a very modern, open, bright, and luxurious feel. From the spacious lobby to the elegant décor, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to enhance the guest experience.
The lounge is superb, offering a perfect view and an excellent selection of refreshments. It quickly became our favorite spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
The rooms are nothing short of extraordinary. They are large and modern, adorned in bright, welcoming colors. The bathroom is perfect, featuring high-end fixtures and plenty of space. The beds are incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The sitting area near the huge windows provided a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the view. The only thing to mention is that, indeed, as mentioned by others, the shower utensils are fixed and make using the bath tub more complicated.
The gym is unlike any hotel gym I have ever seen, boasting equipment that rivals even the best commercial gyms. The indoor swimming area is equally impressive, inviting guests to relax and enjoy the facilities daily. Although the hair cap rule in Taiwan can be a bit irritating, it did not detract from the overall experience. We found it difficult to leave the hotel, as it provided such a relaxing and enjoyable environment.
The breakfast was outstanding, offering a wide selection of Chinese, Japanese, and diverse Western options. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious, continually amazing us with its quality. Although we experienced a minor allergy-related incident, clearly marked allergen signs at the buffet could have prevented this. Despite this, the service staff were incredibly attentive, ensuring we always had everything we needed and were well taken care of.
In total contrast to some negative reviews, our experience was flawless, even though we were using points for this stay. The staff treated us with the utmost respect, ensuring that all our needs were met at every turn. This level of service made our stay truly memorable.
Overall, the Marriott Kaohsiung has set a new benchmark for luxury and service. It is a place where every detail is crafted to perfection, and where guests are made to feel like royalty. We cannot recommend it highly enough and look forward to returning on our next...
