Liu's Traditional Juancun Food Jieshou Branch — Restaurant in Kaohsiung

I came here for dinner with one of my uncles. Liu's is known for their fermented pickled hot pot. It uses a lot of cabbage in the the soup and is brought out in a traditional cooking aluminum vessel. We ordered a family meal, which was the hotpot and a choice of meats, a choice of side dishes, steamed dumplings, scallion pancake, a Taiwanese beef roll, and dessert. The hot pot has a broth filled with all sorts of ingredients, lamb, tofu, some fish cakes, and of course, lots and lots of cabbage. The broth was sour, and while it was fine for the first hour of the meal, it seemed to taste more sour and harder to keep eating. This was after they came to refill the container with more soup several times. What I did like here were the side dishes. I picked out a few side dishes. Tofu and fermented duck egg, topped with scallions. It's simple to make, but so delicious and wonderfully presented on a plate. I also picked out a smoked pig ear in chili oil, which is served cold and flavor wise is a good contrast to the soup and some of the other dishes. I was very impressed with the steamed dumplings, which used a chewy handmade thick dumpling skin dough. So good! If that wasn't enough food, they brought out a whole scallion pancake and Taiwanese beef roll. The pancake was light, not too oily and had a nice firm texture and soft inside. The beef roll was good, but I'm not a fan of kewpie mayo inside the beef roll. I definitely liked the selection of side dishes, with traditional and classic dishes. We waited about 10min to order and realized the waitress was just standing around chatting. She never once checked to see if our table needed anything. Then when it was time to pack up, I couldn't find her to give us take out boxes. It turned out she was standing by the kitchen scrolling on her phone. The food was good but service...

Great restaurant, nice area, clean environment and excellent food and most of all , the price is just right. This is place is well famous for meat with pickled cabbage hot pot，but there are lots more great dishes. For sure next time will come with friends to try the...
