淡水屋台酒場（輕軌新市一路站） — Restaurant in New Taipei

Best dish we had today was caramel salmon sushi. The caramel flavor was quite strong and it had a hint of pomelo which was very refreshing. Definitely a must order! Fried chicken 唐揚雞was crunchy on the outside and moist in the inside. It didn’t come with mayonnaise though but surprisingly still quite good. Maybe because we went quite late, they didn’t have any sour 沙瓦 left which was a shame because I love them! So I had to get a high ball instead. As expected with us coming late, their amazing chawanmushi 茶碗蒸 was already sold out. One major drawback was their grilled mackerel. We went there quite a few times last year and each time we always ordered it, because it was really good. One of the best we had in Taiwan, really. But this time it was such a disappointment. It was tough and a bit fishy and when we worked about half way the smell became even more fishy with a hint of foul smell. We asked the waitress to check on it and she came back saying it came in only this morning. She offered to grill another one which we refuse, obviously because it’d be from the same batch. She immediately told us she’d take it off our order which was the right thing to do. We’ll still be going back next time and we might still order their grilled mackerel though. I'm a big fan of Izakaya. I actually frequent the two places across the street,but last night I wanted to try here. For the first time here,I really felt I was back in Japan. The decor is so over-the-top Japanese and I love it. The service staff can speak English and are very accommodating. The food was delicious and the Orion and Highball were served very cold. There is a car parking lot just a block away, so that's convenient. The only downside is that the QR code menu offers an English translation option,but it doesn't convert the menu to English. So I had to screenshot and Google translate the menu. Or I had to make each food photo larger to see the offerings, which was a bit of a struggle with my eyesight. But overall,it was a great dining experience. I could see myself coming back at least...

It's a great Japanese restaurant.

Their skewers might be better than their shashimi or sushi.

The yakisoba is good. Towfoo with yam- our first time and it was good. Clams with sake - yum Fried congee eel sushi was really good. Just the serving of rice was way too much.

The draft beer is very good.

Call for reservations, they can be busy, there are 5 tables upstairs- seat 4-6...
