EDIT - 11/26/2023 - added an extra picture Had a new dessert they're working on - oh my oh my oh my. I've scarfing down whole 4 square pizzas on the regular now.
Food - Oh man, this abomination was INCREDIBLE Service - The two young people working the night were great! very friendly, very professional, and overall just AWESOME Atmosphere - I like it! Definitely a great place to have a meal.
TLDR - Pizza Bear Cafe, or Pizza Bear Pizza as I've started calling it to all my friends, serves and incredible dish. I can't call it pizza, but yet, I don't know what it exactly is. I can call is that the FOOD IS AMAZING and the service is tops! Hats off to Pizza Bear Pizza.
I've always known that there are multitudes to pizza. Every major local has it's own style. Hell, even the abominations that Pizza Hut Taiwan regularly doles out is considered "pizza". But to me, the boorish American, my goto pizza is always the ubiquitous New York slice, but if Pizza Bear Cafe wasn't so far away, my pizza in Taipei would be the "Detroit Style".
I've never heard of detroit style until I saw it for the first time at Pizza Bear. I've been to Detroit! I've been to Michigan, and Michigan State, and I've never had a detroit slice.
Keen to try new things, I ordered the basic margherita pizza along with a lemon soda. The pizza took about 3 minutes to arrive to my table. What I recieved challenged my pizza eating being.
Instead of the thin crust slice with sauce and cheese, what's served here at Pizza Bear is a thick doughy, fluffy crust smothered with Cheese that's baked to crispy perfection then doused with a healthy amount of pizza sauce. While I had to eat it with a fork and a knife, the flavors were undoubtably pizza.
Looking at it and savoring the taste, i realized what was something that was missing in Taiwan pizza, and it was the sauce. So focused are Taiwan's Pizzarias on the Cheese and the Meats/Toppings, that we often get either too much or too little sauce. On top of that, the sauce is often basic pasta marinara sauce, or some kind of overwhelming tomato paste. Having the sauce on the outside, while taking away from Pizza's portability, allows for a change! If you want more sauce, add more sauce. If you want less, add less! Total game changer. The sauce provided by Pizza Bear is PIZZA SAUCE! It tasted like something I'd get out of a pizza place in Fort Greene or Logan Park, like Pizza.
Pizza Bear will now be a place on my map and a great day trip out of Taipei.
GREAT FOOD - MUST VISIT. Oh and they have...

Read moreI came across Pizza Bear on social media and knew it had to be added to my Taipei travel itinerary. Overall: we left with very happy bellies and will be excited to visit their new (coming soon!) location in Songshan when it opens.
We wanted to test a variety of flavors, so ordered slices of their signature Detroit style in: Chicago sausage, spicy chicken, Taiwaiian, and beef noodle soup. We also ordered the tavern style pepperoni. We were delighted to learn that the owner hand-cures the sausage and pepperoni - you can really taste the freshness and going the homemade route allows him to really layer on the ingredients. I usually prefer a thin crust, but the Detroit style dough was light enough with balanced flavors and ingredients that it didn’t feel too heavy. Our favorite was the beef noodle soup!! To close out our meal, we enjoyed a gooey, oven warmed chocolate chip cookie - mom’s recipe is not to be missed.
The owners are friendly and passionate about their business - it was a pleasure to chat with them between customers and hope to celebrate their success with the...
