DONG SHAN ZHAN — Restaurant in Taichung

This is the best Roasted Chicken I ever had !! It's roasted in a primitive way by using wood and placing the whole chicken in a traditional oven pot. The Roasted Chicken is serve in whole and hot, yet the meat is extremely juicy. The oil that came out from the chicken is collected in a tray and serve on the table, you can use it to pour over your rice, noodle. It is very testy, frangrance and nutritious. One thing to note is that you can taste the woody smell in the chicken meat ! I will strongly recommend this shop for everyone. There are many shop selling this traditional dish but this is the best in Taichong or perhaps whole Taiwan.

You will be given otten grove and plastic grove. First you put on the cotton grove then the plastic grove, reason being the chicken is very hot when it serve, you need the cotton grove to resist the heat. You add on the plastic because it is juicy. Not oily because the oil has mostly been drained out. Usually it is serve whole and you use your hands tear it apart. You have to do it fast and boldly, it hot! But when not crowded, they can cut into pieces upon your request.

They serve noodle with chicken oil or rice with chicken oil, we tried the noodle 面线 it was great!

Other dishes were good too and the portion was generous. We tried the bamboo shoot and vegetable, both were good.

The restaurent is huge, many tables, so the waiting time is not long, and the service is good. I will definitely...

Very juicy piping hot chicken when served.. they provide u gloves so you can eat it with your hands which tastes so much yummy eating this way .. lol Eating the chicken dipping in the salt and pepper condiments just enhances its taste.

Ordered their cabbage dish which looks plain and normal BUT the cabbage so so fresh sweet and crunchy! Helps cleanse the oilyness from the chicken .

Do note their chicken size is quite big and I find it well suffices 2 person. So take note not to over order if it's just a party...

Personally i feel the BBQ chicken is great, you can either choose the restaurant to cut for you or you can wear the gloves to tear it apart as you like. The place is renovated with pretty nice decorations and it might not look like the normal one in Taiwan countryside, and you will be sure with the speed that they deliver the chicken and other dishes to your table. I have to say you really need to try the mouth watering chicken, I go to the place everytime when visit Taichung and I am feeling hungry just by writing this...
