THE ARTFUL DODGER — Restaurant in Tainan

This is my second review of the place. This time, December 14, my visit was not so good. My wife and I arrived shortly before a couple of larger groups arrived. I ordered beer and a burger. My wife ordered the pasta special. The food was pretty good but the service was not. As a former restaurant owner in the US I think the server was new, not trained and left I her own. My beer never showed up. The waitress was too busy with the larger tables so I wasn’t able to get her attention until I went to pay the bill. Restaurants make a pretty good percentage profit off of beverages. Beer takes a minute to prepare and serve while food can take much much longer. More time preparing means more labor cost. Gets the drinks to the table first so the customers can drink a bit while the food is being prepared. There is a better chance that a second beverage will be ordered. On another note, why out items in the menu if you are constantly not serving the item? In this case I am referring to French Dip. Perhaps it is only my bad luck but both times I went, the sandwich was not available. If it is a special item, take it off the menu and put it on the specials board when it is available. Our party waited for over an hour for a sandwich, salad, and breakfast meal to be served. We had drinks served to us after 30 minutes of waiting. We were told to not order the fish and chips if we wanted to have our order come out sooner than 35 minutes, so we changed to a sandwich, but three plates of fish and chips came out to other tables at the same time after an hours time, and the sandwich we ordered came out long after that. There was poor management the day our group was there and it was a very busy day at the restaurant. There were dishes all over the counters so we assume they were understaffed that day. The sandwich had less than three slices of meat and we have had the sandwich there before a some time ago, and it was stacked full of meat inside. They wanted to charge us to add meat, but then said they couldn’t fulfill the order to add any. They didn’t even offer any kind of discount on the sandwich for their poor advice and service to make up for their mistake. We would have rather eaten the fish and chips in the first place. We have eaten here many times and the portion sizes and service continues to decline each time. The food flavors are excellent, but we will not frequent this place as...

Service is too slow. Burnt and dirty plates. This place is going downhill. 😢

Update August 10: Gave the ol Dodger another chance but this time the order was not done as I wanted and the burger bun was charcoaled.

Salad lettuce is low quality - use greener lettuce and more than just two slices of tomatoes and one slice of cucumber.

Also, the restaurant runs out of things frequently when you want that one the most on that day.

The only thing the consistent, alas, is the beer. But I wish you would use the same style glasses so nobody feels unsure if they got a true amount of beer.

During full house, please consider hiring more than two workers. The meals are taking a long time. I watched a person order a meal and he was patiently waiting for almost an hour. Luckily, I was just drinking beer at the time.
