芙云創灶 Maison Stella - 酸種麵包 Sourdough Bakery — Restaurant in Wanhua District

This is not an eatery, nothing to report on the atmosphere. The storefront is very matter of fact, a display case, work space and containers with flours in various stages of rising/fermentation; and racks for the freshly baked bread and the breads, brioche, focaccia are all heavenly delicious. For those who might be familiar with a chain in the San Francisco area called Boudin, this one is a crafty version of that, probably like Boudin Bakery back in the 1800's when it started. We have been getting their labors of love for several years and they have been consistently turning out solid products. Lately the store hours have been erratic, I can't find the daily updates on their Facebook pages; and when I went visit today on a Friday around 3 pm, they weren't open, their website said they're back from a wedding in US and would open on October 18, 2025. When I checked Google maps, it did indicated that they are closed but will open the next Wednesday! Maybe I missed a note on the door or somewhere? Incredible sourdough bakery tucked away in Wanhua, absolutely worth your time and money for the reward to your tastebuds. Kumquat, Oriental Beauty tea bread, and chocolate bread are favorites, unique and expertly crafted. You'll not find bread like this elsewhere--the perfect combination of not-too-spongy sourdough texture with rare, interesting, and well-balanced flavors. The owners invest considerable care and thought into their work, speak native-level English, and are quite helpful and knowledgeable. Price (around $150-300 NT for a full loaf) is right for this quality, and they generously offer half-loaf and rotating specialties to try. Check their Instagram for the best info. It is a small, clean space that does not offer drinks, pastries, bread slicing, WiFi, nor seating--so please don't come in expecting such!
