Bar Neat — Restaurant in Zhubei City

The jalapeno poppers are the best I've ever had. All the dishes were above average. The fried stuff came crispy and hot. The pasta was a good al dente.

The only let down was the drinks. They are all creative but don't taste that good with all the ingredients mixed together. As in they sound more interesting on the menu than they taste. With the exception being the Fu Yuan peanut butter drink. It is called the Windy City, the namesake of Hsinchu and it comes with a tiny edible windmill made out of a dried fruit sheet.

They were very understaffed so it took us awhile to flag them down for anything. There was a VIP area directly behind the tables that was separated by a black curtain and there was a big party going on there. One thing I appreciated though was that the bartender was easygoing enough to swap out amaretto in one of the drinks for campari. (I mean they are both herbal liquors but some bartenders are inflexible). The price was 1800NT per person which I consider a little pricey because we shared a lot of tapas and didn't order that much food. Was in Taiwan for work back in May for three weeks, and was lucky to discover the Little Hippo! Excellent food and microbrews available in a great atmosphere. I always sat at the bar and got to know Christy and Ricky, who both treated me very kindly and always made me feel welcome. The bar was busy at times but always peaceful enough to enjoy my book since I was by myself. Wow, where to start. First this bar is not visible from the street, you need to be very smart to find it, kinda speakeasy. But it’s not speakeasy bar. It’s just mainstream bar with bunch of flair bartenders that have no idea how to manage a bar and people on the bar. I’ve ordered my drink and waited for it, and waited, and waited.

When i reminded them actually it was already 15 mins passed. Their bartender was peackocking around at some girls.
