Goong is a lovely Korean restaurant in Ada Estate. We loved the food and the service. I believe we had Kimchi Jiggae (kimchi stew pork) and Beef Bulgogi with vegetables. They also gave us a side plate of kimchi and other veggies. Everything was delicious! I haven't tasted this good kimchi in Tanzania. The portion sizes were also quite big - the two of us had a tough time finishing everything and had to pack the rest. The food is moderately expensive but is slightly cheaper than the other Korean place in Dar, though (Seoul Garden). But it is great value for money, given the portion sizes!
The staff were friendly, and knew the details of the menu well. The service was very prompt - we got our food within 15 minutes of ordering. The atmosphere is pretty chilled out, too. It is outdoor seating in the backyard of a large house. If you're going for dinner, keep mosquito repellent ready!
It is very conveniently located too. Although the road around gets quite dark and is located in a residential plot, the sign outside is helpful (and Google Maps' location is accurate).
I am a big fan of Korean Gimbap, which unfortunately wasn't there on the menu. I hope you could introduce it too,...
Read moreFirst I called on the phone to ask about the marinate crab (ganjang gejang) We could not really understand each other so we ended up yelling at each other on the phone which was hilarious. But at the time they did not have the dish I wanted, but I could tell by the way the man shouted at me on the phone that the food here must be INCREDIBLE! 😂 I said “we have to eat here!!” So we waited a couple days and then went. They had the marinated crab dish I was longing for and it did not disappoint! Fresh, buttery raw crab in soy sauce with chillies and fresh herbs. Melt in your mouth! We ordered the marinated bbq beef which was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy with a slight char on a bed of scallion salad. We also ordered the kimchijiggae and was very tasty and the tofu fresh. The banchan is very good as well. All the flavors are very authentic, loved to see a very well functioning, clean kitchen that was efficient and dishes came dressed beautifully and fast. Cheers to the chef and back of house staff! Waitstaff are not as efficient and are forgetful...
Read moreThe place is very near to the main road (Chabruma street) but it can be a challenge to find it in the evening or after dark as there is no big signboard and usually when the gate is open, the only small signboard is not visible. Sitting arrangement is under a big shed with no walls and a garden like space in front. It's airy and comfy. The food is good, especially i liked the Mul Naengmyeon and topokki. Kimchi was the best so far i had in Dar. Food is on the expensive side. Staff are cordial. Good place to come once in a while but not for everyday meal. Bring your special friends, guests or colleagues for office dinner. Would...
