I was accompanying my girlfriend and her gaggle of girls to this spot and really didn't know any Thai to comprehend what this place was all about, through their excited chatter, but was very pleasantly surprised and absolutely stunned by the dishes served here by Mrs Mao and her Husband the Expert Chef Mr Tutu.
If my memory serves me right, we started off with (these are just names I'm using to describe the dishes in english, please forgive me for not being poetic or eloquent, am sure their Thai names are far more elegant)
Blue crab salad (Thai style, sweet, spicy, and wonderfully pungent) Caesars salad (crunchy and fresh, not a salad guy, but I loved it) Crispy honey duck with a sea food dip (way better than peking ducks I've had so far) Korean barbequed beef cubes with kimchi and lettuce (could've eaten like 3 plates of this. It was that good) Crab soup( twas good but didn't see how it fit in-between, but it worked well, haha, not complaining) Pickled Thai anchovy and papaya salad (it's fantastic. Got to try it, don't be put off by the thought that it's pickled fish) Grilled Tiger prawns (size of my fist and am a 21 stone big bloke to boot) Sautéed Scallops with green pepper and turkey berries. (This was something else, and a must try) Kaffir lime mojito with wild baby mint garnish as a palette cleanser Iced ube liquer. (a very apt aperitif to wrap this wonderful meal) All the above accompanied with a good Italian Red wine that had a hint or vanilla, I'm assuming, not a connoisseur and would be the worst person to ask to describe a good wine. But can and will say whatever the vintage, it accompanied the course really well.
To be honest I'm always apprehensive about having seafood this far away from the coast, but let me assure you, this place served it all super fresh, short of the animal being alive on the table haha.
The service was fantastic, the hostesses kept the glasses full, Mrs Mao was very engaging, the ambience very pleasent without any flies or mosquitoes harassing you, the place was well ventilated with near silent air movers and yes can't forget to mention the very friendly and well behaved tabby that comes to you at a click of your fingers.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here....
Read moreWe had a magical evening last night at "Food for you" restaurant. The place is very idyllic, set amidst trees and fields. The silence and peace were so soothing, much different from many restaurants that use a lot of noise and blingbling to attract customers. The restaurant itself is kept in a very simple, humble elegance. Chef Tu Tu and his wife do everything required and avoid anything unnecessary to set the stage for one only thing to shine: the extraordinary, spectacular flavors of the restaurant's signature dishes. Never ever have I eaten better anywhere in Thailand. Chef Tu Tu is an alchemist when it comes to combining his utterly fresh products and conjure up simply magical flavours. What a relief that in these times of Tripadvisor and alike, there still are restaurants that devote themselves to the art of cuisine without getting lost in adhering to cheap mainstream...
Read moreCame here for dinner as part of a package offered from our hotel and we were very impressed with the quality of food served. We had the crab and mangosteen salad (excellent) ceaser’s salad (very well put together), crispy duck (excellent), egg fried rice (Uncle Roger would approve), ribeye steak (great but not special), tiger prawns cooked with garlic (best dish in my opinion) and lastly the hot and sour soup (rest of table said it was very savoury but my stomach had exploded by time it arrived…) skipped dessert as we were way too full so dont know how it was like.
Would definately recommend it for those who want to make the effort to get here on own. As an example of the service quality, i ordered a Singha to go with my meal, and the staff actually got on a bike to dash to a nearby grocery store to get it. Such effort will NEVER happen...
