One of Chiang Mai's very best fine dining restaurants without the hefty fine dining prices.
We found this fabulous restaurant through Google reviews almost 2 years ago and have visited 6 or 7 times since. Each time trying something different from the extensive menu and each time leaving very impressed.
Nicely decorated and fitted out restaurant with a casual atmosphere complemented by great staff. Good seating arrangements, having a good choice of tables for two, four, six and one large table for 8 and all well spaced out.
The menu offers both Nordic appetisers and mains along with traditional western favourites. From the Nordic dishes we have tried the Swedish meatballs, Rakmacka XL ( Shrimp Sandwich XL) and the Grilled Salmon with Cream Cooked Potatoes, all superb and beautifully plated. From the western mains we've tried their very tender Red wine braised Australian beef cheeks, Grilled Salmon in white wine & butter sauce and the Norden signature BBQ Ribs with Norden hand cut potato wedges. The wedges might just be the best I've tried anywhere..
Extensive drinks menu, both soft drinks and alcoholic beverages including cocktails, decent wine list and beers including Hoegarden. I had a non alcoholic "Tiger Woods Iced Tea" on my last visit which was very enjoyable. We usually have their excellent red house wine, which at the time of writing is a South African Cabernet Shiraz.
Lastly their dessert menu to finnish a great meal is superb and like everything here made using only the finest ingredients, on our last visit we tried their Chocolate Mousse which is truly divine, nicely balanced and beautifully plated with cream and raspberry. Again this might be the best Chocolate Mousse I've ever tried.
If you have read this far into the review you can probably guess that I really like this restaurant and you'd be correct! I highly recommend this restaurant to fellow Google review users and lovers of great food. Only 10 minutes from the old city and very large free parking lot on...
Read moreIf you’re seeking a refined dining experience with a Nordic touch, Norden Restaurant in Chiang Mai is a hidden gem that deserves your attention. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by warm, earthy interiors—natural wood textures, soft lighting, and elegantly rustic chandeliers that evoke a modern Scandinavian lodge.
For starters, the Gravlax was beautifully plated and delicately cured, enhanced with mustard-dill sauce, thin radish slices, and artful vegetable ribbons. A visually appealing and balanced introduction.
Next came the Shrimp Scampi, generously portioned and bathed in a garlicky herb butter that complemented the sweetness of the prawns. Aromatic and satisfying.
The Lamb Shank was fall-off-the-bone tender, served in a rich red wine reduction with rustic root vegetables. Comfort food elevated to fine-dining standards.
The Tenderloin, served medium-rare, was juicy and perfectly cooked. It sat atop a bed of sautéed vegetables, accompanied by a side of mashed potatoes and a robust red wine sauce that brought everything together seamlessly.
Service was smooth and attentive without being intrusive. The final bill came to ฿2,546.60 for a full-course meal with drinks—excellent value for this level of quality and presentation.
Verdict: Norden combines refined Nordic ambiance with top-tier cuisine and a serene setting, making it an excellent spot for intimate dinners or...
Read moreThis is a summary of my experience. One of us puked when we reached home...
The food delivered was cold as though it was left for a long time before coming to our table. The Spaghetti Carbonara was thick and sticky with little flavour. The pork chop was also very hard as it was overcooked.
The service had double standards. One waiter went over to a table to tell the customer no outside drinks allowed. However, the staff ordered chicken rice delivery from the store beside and ate in the restaurant.
The staff had poor communication leading to poor customer service. When we wanted to take away our food, one staff said that it was not possible to take away our dessert which was two slices of cake. However, when we approached another staff, she said that we could take away our cake. This poor communication leads to a very poor experience on our part.
This is a genuine reflection of our experience at the restaurant and we hope that any potential customers may take our review into consideration before...
