I visited this restaurant along with two other friends on Sunday, June 22th. We ordered 3 dishes ( fried calamari 220 THB, Tom kha gai 150 THB, Fried pork with garlic and black pepper 160 THB). For people who have been in Thailand for even a tiny fraction of time that I have, you would realize that the prices for those dishes listed above is quite very expensive, me and my friends did not want to run around to find another restaurant as it was getting late, so we decided to have a seat despite the outrageous prices. We ended up waiting 45 minutes for our food even though there was only 2 other tables who clearly arrived at the restaurant much sooner than we did.
The restaurant was designed nicely, the restaurant owner seemed very nice, greeting other tables as well as ours, however, I did not understand why no one came out to serve us the beverage that we ordered even after 45 minutes has passed. Not even one fan around the dining area was opened, the mosquitoes were horrendous. For a restaurant claiming to serve Thai and Italian foods, the taste was flavorless and mediocre, for 160 baht, a price no Thai local will pay for fried pork with garlic and black pepper, the taste has nothing to write home about, the only notable thing about this dish was it’s small portion size. I’m very sorry to leave it at this, maybe on your day of visit your dining experience might be different from mine , but, regardless to say, I will not come back to...
Read moreInteresting story to share about this great restaurant!
I traveled to Chumpon recently for a bicycle race and while staying at this beautiful beach, I was craving spaghetti bolognese.
However, during my 5 day stay at Thung Wua Laen beach I went to Le Betole 3 nights in a row and wasn't able to get a table, the first and second night they were full, the third night they had been fully booked by a group for dinner.
However on the day before leaving Chumpon, I bicycled past the restaurant only to see that they were closed that day, but the owner Khun Paolo came out of the kitchen to say hi nonetheless.
I told Khun Paolo that I had been trying to eat at his restaurant for a few times and was disappointed that I couldn't.
To my surprise, when he heard this, he offered to open a table just for me and my wife and we finally got to eat the spaghetti bolognese we had been craving for, despite Le Betole being closed.
Such a great and heartwarming experience, Khun Paolo opened just for me and I got to eat a very well prepared and hearty serving of spaghetti. Thank you so much to Khun Paolo and his lovely family.
Would definitely highly recommend Le Betole to anyone and everyone looking for proper good Italian food when visiting this...
Read moreSeemingly a wonderful Thai-Italian restaurant, but…. I guess we were unlucky on an already sad rainy day with a lot of thunderstorm. It seemed the Italian owner was in a bad mood. When we came (Thai) people were already sitting there in a group. Because there was a larger table available and they were sitting at 2 small tables they were asked by the owner whether they could move so we could also have a table and he would have one more table available for other people. Their English seemed limited, and they didn’t fully understand, also the owner wasn’t very kind in also mentioning they only ordered 2 pizza with their group. They decided to leave instead and we felt a bit bad since we didn’t want to intrude on anyone’s evening. The owner also wasn’t nice to the waiter, who also seemed uncomfortable. Nevertheless, still hungry, we decided to stay even if uncomfortable.
We ordered two glasses of wine (finally in Thailand!) and two spaghetti carbonara’s. The carbonara’s were good, but there was way too much pepper on them. I am in Italy regularly so I do have quite some comparison…
In the end, the atmosphere wasn’t great anymore unfortunately. I guess this was definitely the...
