On's Thai Isaan Vegetarian Restaurant Wonderful Thai Vegetarian with Mouth Watering Aromas
On´s Thai Isaan Vegetarian Restaurant was something that immediately captured our attention as we try and eat only vegan/vegetarian when travelling especially to Thailand as it is so easy to be a vegetarian. Our first time in Kanchanaburi, we went straight to the restaurant after dropping off our bags as we were very hungry and excited to try something different in this part of Thailand.
From the outside The outside view is simple, sitting on an elevated terrace with outdoor and indoor open seating with small cosy tables. Easily seen from the street so you won't miss it if your riding past on your scooter.
Menu The Menu is quite extensive which is typical with dozens of options for choosing something to your liking, especially since it is all home made right in front of you. From rice dishes to noodles, non spicy to super spicy and soups. Overall a great selection of dishes to suit everyone.
Prices From 20 baht upwards depending on what you order, soups always being the more expensive, but this is standard throughout Thailand as they take a lot more time to prepare, but again let's put it into the context of expensive 2 euros for an incredibly tasting soup!!
Food The food is freshly prepared right in front of you with fresh veggies from the area and the smell, the aroma coming from the food preparation gives you a mouth watering sensation that your going to enjoy the food. As always, I ordered a Pad Thai, wok vegetables and rice which came within 5 minutes of placing the order.
The lovely owner brought the dishes over which were steaming hot and fresh from the wok. We tucked in and were instantly enjoying the delicious flavours all of the plates had to offer and gave both of us a nice warming sensation of enjoying more deliciously prepared Thai food.
Drinks We ordered some fresh drinks which were pretty tasty too, especially the mango. The restaurant also has a wide selection of drinks to satisfy most tastes from smoothies to juices.
Customer Service Staff are really open, friendly and very helpful giving their opinion about what dishes to order for our tastes. They present a nice homely feeling and very welcoming on arrival, during and after ensuring your visit is the best possible.
Recommendations Fully recommended for all vegan/vegetarians and meat eaters to try something freshly prepared. Whilst in Kanchanaburi, stop by and if you enjoy the food so much, book yourself a cooking course with the same restaurant and take some of the tips back home with you. Thank you lovely people for giving us a nice food experience at your cosy restaurant, good luck. #LetsGuide #fsya...
Read moreI'm not vegetarian nor vegan. Still, came here for almost all meals during my stay in Kanchanaburi.
Service: super friendly. Not all staff speaks English, but they are quick to get you one that does. Friendly greeting arriving/leaving. Also two-bites check ;) Mrs. On runs a tight ship! (and always with an easy, authentic smile on her face)
Breakfast: so far, best place for musli yogurt and fruit for breakfast here in Thailand. I also enjoyed the pancakes and fruit plate.
Dinner/Lunch: anything is great, I had green curry, stir fried veggies w/ cashewnuts, pad Thai, pumpkin soups. Juice/Shake/Smoothie: Had Mango, Mix fruit, and mint lemonade. All of them really good. Mango had different taste depending on the fruit they cut for you. I don't mind that and actually enjoyed having different mixes of Mango (I.e. ripe, very ripe, etc) everytime I ordered it. Sometimes I would have 2 x Mango shakes as they were tasty (and cheap at 40b). Mint and lemon went very well with the spicy green curry (you can choose what level of spice you want. And they always got it right for me: sometimes I chose no spicy, most of the times medium. I don't dare choose spicy yet)
Could be better: spring rolls are filled with dough instead of vegetables, personally, I didn't like the that much. Coffee is not available, you need to grab it somewhere else.
Price: Great value for money. All mains 80b, shakes are 40b
They also offer cooking classes if you're into that. We saw 2 of these sessions taking place while eating there. They sounded fun, dynamic, very detailed, easy to follow instructions, plus they even take pictures for you while you cook (with your phone).
BYOD: They don't sell alcohol, luckily the place next door does beer and craft beer. No corkage is charged.
Highly recommended and my go-to place if I come...
Read moreI'll start this review by saying the food was excellent, very very good. Very good sized portions. We had the morning glory, which is actually a big dish size portion, rather than the smaller side dish we are used to. Most of the dishes even seem to also contain tofu which is very good (not stated on the menu, it will just say vegetable etc...) but for example my partners mushroom stir fry, my vegetable green curry and the morning glory ALL contained tofu. Which is great, if, like me you are into a lot of Endurance sport and you worry about your protein intake!
I'm not sure if it was just our timing but we did find the service very slow, it could be a one off. They are very friendly. The restaurant itself does lack a lot of fans or air conditioning, well it's open aired, but maybe more ventilation would make the experience more fulfilling. I would say it's an absolute must try if you are...
