Saffron at Banyan Tree Krabi — Restaurant in Krabi Province

Myself and my wife are gobsmacked at the high reviews for this place. We have just eaten there and have both been sick in the toilet 😫

The staff are so kind and couldn’t be more attentive, but the food is shockingly bad value for the price. The staff deserve better. The quality is a far cry from the pomp and circumstance.

We read the great reviews and couldn’t wait to try.

The soft shell crab was good, but only a few small pieces. The scallop starter was horrifically chewy and frankly inedible.

The massaman curry was too sweet, meat on the tougher side and served with a plethora of rice versus barely any sauce!

Saffron rice speciality was well flavoured but seafood within it chewy. (They can’t cook tender seafood here sadly.)

We have had far better food at local restaurants and so were very disappointed. My wife threw up before we made it back to the hotel room and sufficed to say we will not be visiting again.

Ps atmosphere was (despite the friendly staff) strange and bizarre. None of the other tables seemed to be involved in conversation of any kind with their dining partners, preferring their phones or even watching series loudly on their screens for their entertainment.

The one saving grace was their chilli cocktail.

Wow! Just wow! The service of this restaurant is spectacular! We went there to cap off our honeymoon in Thailand and it was a very good decision. We didn’t stay at the Banyan Hotel but they allow outside guests to dine. The moment you arrive at the hotel compound you already feel very special. Their staff is super attentive and tailors fit their service to you. They have a very pleasant service flow that we never experienced in any other restaurant. The treats don’t seem to end! Special hand wash, cold towels, amuse Boucher, complimentary dessert! And the view is amazing! We arrived at 6PM when the sun was still about to set and you could see the color of the sky change from blue to orange to purple. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed with a thoughtful Thai touch — an orchid flower and fragrant hand cleansing. Khun Noogie and the service team (Khun Nanny, Khun M, Khun Green, and Khun Lookked) were incredibly attentive and made the experience truly special.

Every dish was outstanding! The Por Pia Puu with Mango Sauce was refreshing and unique. The Gaeng Puu with Bai Cha Plu was rich, aromatic, and full of depth. The Khao Phad Nam Prik with Braised Pork was so flavorful that I finished it without even realizing. And last but not least, the Miang Som-O with Crispy Fish brought a nostalgic taste of traditional Thai cuisine — perfectly balanced with sweet, sour, salty, and spicy notes.
