Note: I did not eat here. This review is only about the behaviour outside the restaurant.
I was open to trying Indian food during my 6-night stay in Ao Nang, but the behaviour outside this restaurant completely put me off.
There is a staff member who stands outside and loudly calls out to every passerby: “Hello my friend, come eat here, come have chai,” again and again. Even when you clearly keep walking or avoid eye contact, they continue calling loudly across the street. It becomes uncomfortable and intrusive, especially when walking with family.
To avoid it, we literally crossed the road. Even then, they sometimes kept shouting from across the street. This does not feel like hospitality. It feels pushy and desperate.
As an Indian tourist, this is disappointing and embarrassing because it gives the wrong image of India and Indian people abroad. This behaviour does not happen like this in India.
For comparison, when Thai restaurants invite you, it is completely different. Thai staff, even in busy and successful places, stay soft-spoken and polite. They smile, they greet gently, and if you are not interested or do not make eye contact, they instantly stop. That is welcoming. That is hospitality. Not shouting and pressuring tourists.
Because of this behaviour alone, we decided not to dine here.
Rating: 1 star purely for street behaviour No food review, as we did not eat here.
Tourists prefer polite invitations, not aggressive calling. Please consider a respectful approach.
My response to the owner:
Thank you for replying.
I did not object to greeting customers. That is absolutely normal everywhere. What I pointed out was the manner and volume. Calling loudly at every passerby, even across the road, repeatedly, does not feel like hospitality. It feels intrusive and uncomfortable, especially for families with children.
You mentioned friendliness. True friendliness notices when a guest is not interested and respects their space. Many restaurants in Krabi do this well and still stay full.
This is not about nationality. I am Indian and would love to see Indian restaurants represent us with dignity and true hospitality, not pressure and shouting. Calling this simple feedback “negative thoughts” instead of reflecting on it only proves why it needed to be said.
I hope you genuinely consider it. I wish your staff and...
Read moreAs I embarked on my culinary adventure, my taste buds eagerly anticipated the flavors awaiting me. The first dish to grace my palate was the chicken tikka, a classic choice known for its aromatic spices and tender meat. Upon my initial taste, I found it to be satisfactory, meeting my expectations but failing to elicit any extraordinary sensations. However, my palate was soon to be enraptured by the tantalizing allure of the kadhai chicken. As the succulent pieces of chicken simmered in the rich, aromatic gravy, a symphony of flavors danced upon my tongue. The marriage of spices, herbs, and tender chicken created a harmonious blend that left an indelible mark on my taste buds. With each bite, I found myself delving deeper into a culinary journey filled with delight and satisfaction. In the end, it was the kadhai chicken that emerged as the true star of the meal, captivating my senses and leaving me longing for another taste of its...
Read moreA local gem! Great Indian food perfectly prepared.
We found this restaurant on a side street up from the main road next to our hotel. Don’t let the modest decor fool you - the food here is excellent!
We weren’t super hungry and had to limit spice a bit and avoid dairy and gluten today as hubby is still getting over an illness so that definitely altered our regular food choices but we thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered.
We shared vegetable pakora, aloo tikki (a really flavourful potato pancake) and a half tandoori chicken. Really great flavours and freshness. The tamarind and mint sauces that accompanied were also delicious! Super affordable at $600Baht total.
Nitish Singh, our server is also the owner and he was friendly and kind. Nice that they provide each table with anti-bacterial hand spray… greatly appreciated! Glad we stopped here and if we were here longer would definitely eat here...
