Sai Nam Pai Kitchen — Restaurant in Mae Hong Son Province

This is definitely one of the top 5 restaurants in Pai but is often missed as it is a little out of town.

The owner is a keen fisherman and this restaurant specialises in freshwater fish. It has an extensive fish menu and a wide range of exotic meats such as crocodile, ostrich and soft shelled turtle!

The quality of the cooking is good but this is reflected in the fact that the food can take a while to arrive.

Very spacious, nice decor. There is often a musician playing live - whether this is a good thing depends on whether you like live music. 😆

Best fried fish Three tastes chilli sauce (sweet, salty, limey) I have had in ages, from a specialist fish restaurant. 250 baht for a large portion of the snake head fish variety (pla chon). Best som tam papaya salad lao style with salt crab and pickled lime skin. Our bill was high as we had beer at the normal price. Have a live performance (Thai songs) after 630pm. I was the first customer.

Ate 3 servings of rice. Order some stir fry vegetables. Tasty. Ordered larb moo. Tasty. But the killer is the fish soup. Absolutely godly. The soft oil of the fish looks like collegen and the fish has no bone. Soup was left without a drop after my meal.
