Chez Sonia is one of my favorite spots in Khao Yai, and I make it a point to visit almost every time I’m in the area.
The atmosphere is wonderful, and the staff are always friendly, attentive, and welcoming. They genuinely care about customer feedback and constantly strive to improve.
Chez Sonia specializes in Italian cuisine with high-quality ingredients, which can be hard to find in Khaoyai, I usually order the Carbonara Romana and the RCV Parma Ham Pizza, and both are consistently delicious. While there might be rare occasions when the flavors slightly differ, the staff are always receptive to feedback and continuously refine their recipes.
The Carbonara Romana here is authentic and cream-free, with its saltiness perfectly balanced by the cheese and guanciale. Right now, it’s exceptional – the cheese and egg create a rich and aromatic. The guanciale is crispy and fragrant. If you prefer a milder or less salty version, you can request adjustments, which the staff happily accommodate.
Amatriciana – The balance of flavors is spot on, with crispy, fragrant guanciale and rich, well-seasoned tomato sauce. Try it with rigatoni for an extra satisfying bite.
As for the pizza, the dough is made fresh in-house, following the Napoli style, and they are certainly generous with the toppings. Whether it’s the Parma ham pizza, Salami, or Four Cheese, every bite is flavorful and satisfying. Next time, I’m looking forward to trying their new Truffle Pizza!
Don’t forget to enjoy their fresh bread with Lorenzo No.5 olive oil or butter. You can also request extra bread—it’s worth it!

Read moreWe didn't expect something much when arrived here but surprisingly the food tasted really great. The taste was somewhat Italian (as opposed to "Thai Italian" as in many claimed-Italian restaurants). At first we assumed the chef was Italian but apparently none of them were (and never been). A lot of the chef were even Isaan descents who learned practicing from right here (the staff informed us they were also cooking school that produced some chefs). The material were just right and cooked properly, e.g. temperature, timing, taste, etc. The staff were also attentive and enthusiastic. Apart from this we also visited Trot Caffe and the open park (the stables, antique car drive, and green lawns) which we found a good place for holiday. Great experience. Consider to...
Read moreHad dinner recently. Pleasantly surprised. Good selection of Italian classics. The pizza was really soft and bouncy with a nice generous crust. My wife had the carbonara, which was loaded with cheese, just how she likes it. We also had calamari and a rocket salad which were both good but left us with no room for dessert.
We brought our own wine and paid a 500bht corkage fee, which is fair.
The staff were really friendly and helpful.
The were playing a movie on a giant projector, which we weren’t watching, as we joined in the middle and cousins really see well from our seats anyway. So it seems like music would have been a nicer option but I can see the appeal.
All in all a nice dinner at an...
