Called late 7.30pm to see how busy they were and managed to speak to bossman mr long. :) who took my reservation and gave me directions. Confirmed that there were jumbo prawns left! It’s a Saturday night and traffic is jammed in every direction!
After an hour in traffic the taxi dude pulls up in front... not being local it was a bit of a shock! Siam 77 is in an alley (a car can fit) our taxi dropped us off in front of the alley.. it was like a square of some sort. Last night it was movie night!! Large projector screen you normally expect on stage. Speakers were so loud that vibrations came through the taxi. We were like those idiots who stand up and talks in the middle of an action sequence; screen on our left locals on the ground and other vantage points on our right! Anyway apprehensively walked through the alley and eventually heard the music and was warmly greeted by Mr Long.
Saw the familiar setting of where many foodies have taken instapics of these large prawns.. only 3 left!!! I wasn’t disappointed! They looked pretty good. Big!! Have shared my not so insta worthy pics.. they don’t do it justice.
The prawns were amazing!! Big succulent and very fresh! The butter is unlike any other kind I’ve had before. The only way I can describe this is that it almost reminds me of the best chinese mitten crab roe crossed with the Ipoh big head prawn?!?! The Thai chillie special sauce it came with was hot but very addictive!! We tried other dishes on the menu as well. The fish pancake.. This fish thingy red curry type sauce that just scrapes off the bone and prawn omelette... were good too.
But the highlight of the night besides the boy from the restaurant taking us on his tuc tuc to get us a taxi would definitely be the butter head river prawn, the friendliness of the staff and the setting!! Table right next to the river and artificial winds from the fans :))) All in all a fantastic experience.. can highly recommend and would definitely come back the next time am...
Read moreNot worth the effort to get there and the hype it has obtained. We trekked here based on the reviews and videos we've seen. We ordered the famous river prawn (yes, it was big..that's it. WAY over hyped), chicken green curry (on the bitter side and the chicken was extremely tough), stir fired chayote with oyster sauce (decent), jumbo prawns with garlic (comes with 4..they were better than the river prawns), and glass noodle with seafood (came with slices of pork and 3 shrimps). The staff were inattentive and were busy putting on their make up...we had to keep walking to our drink trolley and pour our drinks ourselves. It was quiet when we were there, around 6pm. Be prepared with lots of bug spray, we were swarmed by them once the food came...and maybe some gecko spray? This place is overpriced. Maybe we're biased since we come from North America and we have awesome lobster. We will definitely NOT be...

The prawn was gigantic and grilled to perfection. It was sweet, and filled with prawn “butter”, which was perfect when mixed with rice.
The gourd leaves are AMAZING, on par with the prawn 🫡
Be warned, the tomyum was very spicy despite telling the waiter “less spicy”. My non-Thai tastebuds could not handle it but it was filled with seafood to the brim. What a bang for your buck!!
Fresh coconut was sweet, however the Red Ruby dessert was slightly out of my expectations. Probably because the red ruby I usually had in my home country uses different ingredients.
But overall, GREAT RESTAURANT!
The only downside is that it’s quite far from the city, and not accessible by train directly. You’ll have to take a cab or tuktuk. quite hard to locate as well, because it’s well hidden in a...
