My recent dining experience at Mumbai's Great Punjab Restaurant in Pattaya was a mixed affair, offering a blend of authentic flavors and room for improvement. Here's a detailed review:
The restaurant's ambiance carries a touch of traditional Indian warmth, creating a comfortable setting for patrons. The décor and soft lighting add to the overall inviting atmosphere. The staff were friendly and welcoming, contributing positively to the dining experience.
The menu at Great Punjab Restaurant is extensive, featuring a variety of classic Indian dishes. Our selections included the butter chicken, biryani, and garlic naan. The flavors were authentic, with the spices and aromas reminiscent of traditional Punjabi cuisine. The portion sizes were generous, providing good value for money.
While the food quality was commendable, the service was a bit inconsistent. There were moments of attentiveness, but during peak hours, the staff seemed a bit stretched, resulting in delays and a less seamless dining experience.
The restaurant's location in Pattaya adds to its appeal, providing a taste of Indian cuisine in a foreign setting. The outdoor seating area allows patrons to enjoy their meals amidst the bustling atmosphere of the city.
However, there is room for improvement in terms of cleanliness. The tables and chairs, particularly in the outdoor area, could benefit from more thorough maintenance.
In conclusion, Mumbai's Great Punjab Restaurant in Pattaya is a decent choice for those craving authentic Indian flavors away from home. With its flavorful dishes and inviting ambiance, it has the potential to be a top contender with a bit more attention to service and cleanliness. A 3.5-star rating reflects the overall positive experience with some areas open for...

I can compare to the original (?) one in Bangkok, which I praised highly - same formula, and for me it works...
Nepali/Burmese male staff; buffet starts late; filling (rather high carb); huge seating space of simple group tables; free drinking water (I miss their stainless steel tumblers); beer available; big hand washing sink and thankfully not inside the WC; mostly lacto-veg (usually only one non-veg dish, though when I enjoyed the feast there were two non-veg dishes, albeit one just eggs: I suspect they serve no beef or pork, to keep both major clientele groups happy).
My favourite features were the red bean-rich dal makhani and the charred crispy roti. But although the flat bread had the oiliness of ghee, there was no buttery aroma or flavour so I presume it was vegetable ghee. Additionally, the yoghurt was so watery it was more like lassi. And sacrelige of sacreliges, the limes were absent, replaced by a strange smelling juice. On the night I was at GREAT PUNJAB there was some sort of kadai savory and Lahori sabzi, the latter of which I found had too many ingredients for my palate so I skipped seconds. I skipped the rice too because the bread was spectacular for my tastes. Plenty of help-yourself red onions, chillies and cucumber. Unfortunately no cilantro to garnish, though anise seeds for mouth refreshening at the exit door. Some sort of halva-like semolina dessert that was delightfully not too sweet.
You don't bring a date or a special guest here. This is everyday working man's food. You serve yourself, so 'service' is irrelevant.
Will I return? Yes, but mostly because an old friend lives on the same block. Also, it's good value at THB250. Plus the manager...
Read moreI recently enjoyed a buffet lunch at Hotel Mumbai's Great Punjab Restaurant in Pattaya, and it was a delightful experience, especially for vegetarian diners! The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, creating a lovely atmosphere for a meal.
The vegetarian buffet spread was impressive, offering a wide variety of dishes that showcased the rich flavors of North Indian cuisine. Highlights for me included the paneer tikka, which was perfectly marinated and grilled, and the dal makhani, which was creamy and comforting. The vegetable biryani was fragrant and packed with spices, making it a satisfying addition to the meal.
I also appreciated the selection of fresh salads and chutneys that accompanied the dishes, adding freshness and zing to the meal. The naan and roti were freshly made and complemented the curries beautifully.
The service was attentive and friendly, ensuring that our dining experience was enjoyable. My only reason for giving four stars instead of five is that some dishes ran out quickly during the lunch rush, and it took a little longer than expected for them to be replenished.
Overall, I highly recommend Great Punjab for anyone seeking a delicious vegetarian buffet in Pattaya. The combination of flavorful dishes and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a fantastic...
