Charlotte Hut Coffee & Tea Bar — Restaurant in Phrae Province

Aah Thailand ! You continue to surprise me !! A friend brought me here for coffee … seedy backstreet, ordinary-looking little entrance next to a car wash place. Expectations? Not high. Reality? Step inside to something that’s a fusion of high-end cake dealers den, Japanese tea house and the grandmother’s house that you wish she’d had. Coffee and cakes beyond reproach and atmosphere tranquil. A koi pond full of obviously happy koi does no harm either, right?

Tiny improvements are possible … My coffee appeared in a nice glass cup but my host’s green tea was presented in a very ordinary plastic takeaway cup. Why? There’s an unnecessary electronic ‘puck’ to take back to the table. It goes off like a fire alarm and does not stop until the customer races to the counter. Those things are totally out of character and need to be dumped in the koi pond. But … 5 stars. More than 1 hour in Phrae? Check the place out.

I was starting to get depressed in Phrae until I found this cafe.The Thais love dark roast coffee and so many cafes in the city serve coffee in this style. Finally, at this cafe, I have options in light and medium roast. Not only is the coffee here good, it is very pretty here. The cafe is decked in country cottage chic and it has lovely outdoor seats in a large and leafy garden. The presentation of the food and drinks is very nice as well. Don't miss out on the cakes by the way. They are really good. I would highly recommend a stop here when you...

If you are looking for a nice and quiet place to relax with your drink then this is not the place. Nice set up with indoor aircond. section and also garden section. Cakes are good. Hang out place for teens. Holidays and weekends are usually packed. Not only you don't get a seat to sit but can't even get an IP address...
