Very disappointing gastronomic experience I ordered a Japanese staple - katsu curry with chicken. When it arrived I was shocked to find it consisted of a few minuscule shreds of chicken in a tiny bowl of watery sauce; looked nothing like the menu illustration. A bowel of cold rice was served separately, that tasted like it was cooked yesterday. Having eaten katsu curry on countless occasions before, I know the sauce’s consistency should be a little thick, but this one was like water, tasting more like a dishwatery stew than curry. I estimate there were no more than three baht’s worth of ingredients. Apart from the tiny threads of chicken there were a few lumps of carrot and potato. How can you call yourself a Japanese restaurant when you can’t make katsu curry? I thought it took nerve to serve something so abjectly awful to a customer, I’d have thought twice about serving it to a dog. Apart from the lady who speaks good English, service is gloomy and morbid. The waitresses shuffle around with very funereal expressions. This review is only for the Katsu curry. If they served what they gave me to everyone who ordered this dish the restaurant would have multiple one star reviews. If they didn’t have the ingredients in stock to make it properly they should have told me and I could have ordered...
Read moreIt's a nice addition to sleepy Prachuap. I had heard good things about our first Japanese restaurant. Sadly I was underwhelmed. The food was average, the prices were average, but we were banged up upstairs in the overflow room, with service staff who were indifferent, slammed the food on the table, so they could retreat as quickly as possible. If you want more than your first order, or want the bill, you have to walk downstairs and wait at the front desk until someone is available to talk to you. Also be prepared for the owners or staff members child to stand at your table and watch you eat. Not comfortable. My daughter and I both agreed, while it's nice to have a Japanese restaurant in our town, we'll go to a professional Japanese restaurant in Bangkok next time. I hope they improve. I hope they train the staff and...
Read moreMust eat here every time I’m in Prachaup! Had a delicious lunch here last December and had to come back tonight. The Japanese proprietor and his Thai wife run probably the best authentic Japanese restaurant for miles around. Love the cold soba noodles here, not too soft/over cooked like at some places. My soy sauce grilled mackerel was fresh and tender. Very reasonable prices, great staff/service, fresh fish choices along with non fish dishes, there’s something you’ll definitely want to order. Keep up the good work, we look forward to coming back!
Came back the following night and tried their slow stewed salmon head in a light soy sauce and it was so flavorful - so much umami! It’s slow cooked over low heat for nearly a day so even the bones become...
