This restaurant was a lifesaver for us. My husband and I are very picky eaters and were dismayed to find the restaurant at our resort to be very poor quality and overpriced. Luckily this place, a few 100m walk away, was incredibly good! And incredibly cheap! We would be hard pressed to spend more than 250bhat here if we tried -that's two meals with a beer and a juice. The two lovely ladies running the place are kind and quietly funny, everything is clean, and the food just perfect. We ate here every day, for our seven day stay in Mae Haad. Here are our favorites: Breakfast - try the pork basil stir fry with a fried egg, and a pancake with fruits and coconut. Lunch/Dinner - try the pad Thai, the green or red curries, and the fried veges with cashew nuts was divine. They were really accommodating of our odd requests like replacing the cashews with peanuts, or making a dish vegetarian. Absolutely love the place and if we ever come back to Koh Phangan - we'll make a special trip to visit. The dishes here are not spicy BTW - but they give you enough chilli options at the table to spice any dish up to...
Read moreWe went to three different restaurants in Mae Haad, and Big O was the best for us. They offer quite a wide range of dishes (even European & American, which we didn't try), all of them really favourable / low-priced. We had seafood, fish, soups and salads -- all of which were really tasteful. It is an original Thai kitchen/restaurant, so if you're not too much into the spicy stuff, you better tell them in advance. It does not sound very special, but the ice tea they make themselves and without sugar is really good and refreshing. Apart from the very good food, the place itself is nice: open and roofed terrace, plenty of wooden benches/seats and even magazines and books to read (a bit outdated, but still). Actually I did not find the chiefess particularly friendly -- but somehow it fitted, and fortunately it did not affect her cooking skills, so we felt very well at this place and returned...
Read moreWe ate breakfast here a couple of times, and had dinner here once. It was great for both and would highly recommend. Prices are fair and staff is nice.
We also rented a scooter here, upon recommendation from our resort, for two days. They did want a passport deposit, but gave it back with no hassle. They also have a clear pricelist upfront for if you damage the scooter, so there is no discussion possible if this is the case. All in all, if you are staying in Mae Haad, would recommend this as a trustworthy place to...
