Seriously enjoyable French food in a quirky atmosphere...
Nastasia and Jérôme are the third owners of The Boudoir since we first dined there more than seven years ago. Based on our two visits (March and April) since they took over I would say they have not only maintained the standards of their predecessors, but have even further upped the quality of the customer experience.
The quirky ambience has remained pretty well unchanged, the service is very personal and a delight to experience, and the casual atmosphere belies the serious endeavour to deliver a memorable evening. It's unique in Samui to be able to dine seriously well at a small family-run business where both the food and the service are at the heart of what the owners are all about.
Talking of the food, it really is excellent. Nothing too fancy or avant garde is attempted, and rightly so. The menu is quite traditional with focus on ingredients and attentive, rigourous preparation. The appropriately short wine list has been thoughtfully selected and delivers exactly what is needed at a very fair price (love the Y Series Viognier!).
It is always enjoyable to dine at The Boudoir and we shall most definitely be back there again soon. Thanks to Nastasia and Jérôme for the...
Read moreHow does one begin rating this place? Do we talk about the cosy atmosphere? Or should we wax eloquent about the amazing hosts - Magali and Patrice - who warmly recommended the best dishes on the menu, stopped over to chat about their life back in France and in Thailand!? Or should we merely stop with expressing how delectable each of the dishes were?
From the starter platter to the French wine and potato au gratin sides - everything we ordered was delicious!
The roasted goat cheese with cranberry salad combined smoky, sweet and pungent tastes to bring forth a salad that was out of the world. The Ratatouille was flavoursome with the Provencal herbs combining well with the rich tomato sauce.
The food not just validates the great reviews you hear about the place but also indicates how passionate the couple is about cooking and running an authentic French experience. The decor is eclectic with bright upholstery and paintings, and a smattering of rustic garden chairs. They have modelled the place on a more casual home environment rather than a restaurant so that you feel snug throughout.
Overall - go to this place for a nice romantic evening spiced by exquisite...
Read moreWe have a favorite restaurant where we live that is French and they make wonderful food. Molecular gastronomy!! So while on Samui we thought we'd see what the highest rated french restaurant could offer. We were not disappointed!! We shared an entree, had a main each and by the time we finished there was no room for desert... Much to our disappointment. We would have gone back again if there had been time. It's top notch!! Don't want to give away the surprises we received and ruin it for you but.. while visiting Koh Samui I would always return here. Not as cheap as local Thai food or other places.. you get what you pay for.. an comparetivly to nz it was well worth it. Not molecular gastronomy.. but dam good french fare!!! Friendly and generous hosts this was an entire experience and not just a meal!! Don't take my word for it... Experience the Devine food and great service for yourself!! You...
