By The Sea — Restaurant in Trat Province

We stayed at By The Sea for 6 nights in February 2020. We both live in Thailand so have travelled quite a bit both across the Kingdom and wider SEA. Hands down this is easily one of our favourite places! A big thank you to all of the staff who were brilliant the whole time! Silke who was very friendly and helpful. Mango, Khun Top and Khun Ppai who kept us well hydrated in the bar with beautiful cocktails. Khun Non who was always helpful and served us delicious Lunches and breakfasts. All the other staff whose names we didn't get chance to ask this time.

Rooms Well decorated and large rooms they are very clean and feel very fresh.

Food/Drink Insane! We ate here most days breakfast, lunch or dinner and the quality is great. Really tasty, great selection and HUGE portions. The bar at BTS is very well stocked and the cocktails were tasty and potent!

Staff The staff always make or break a hotel and here is no exception everyone was very warm, attentive and welcoming.

Beach/facilities Right on the beach with a large stretch of sand to explore. There is a pier close by but you aren't disturbed by boats at all as they are infrequent and far enough away. The pool area is beautiful with bean bags, day beds etc. Location is great! Along the 'busy' part of Ao Kao easy walk to other restaurants and bars with a shop over the road. You can reach anywhere on the island in 10 minutes on scooter and most places offer free shuttle services when booked in advance.

Others We rented scooters from BTS for the time we were THERE at 250baht per day. They were fine and seemed quite new.

Overall, it was an amazing experience to stay here and we're usually a little forgetful at leaving reviews but in this case we just had to! We highly recommend this hotel and are sure you wont regret...

Alles einfach wundervoll :) Ich war etwas mehr als 2 Wochen im „By The Sea“. Bereits die Ankunft war toll: super herzliche und hilfsbereite Menschen, die einem sofort das Gefühl gegeben haben, willkommen zu sein. Ich hatte einen Transfer vom Pier zur Unterkunft.

Guesthouse, Zimmer & Pool Dort angekommen, war ich überwältigt von der super schönen und gepflegten Anlage. Die Zimmer sind total schön, modern sowie liebe- und geschmackvoll eingerichtet, auf top (europäischem) Standard. Ich hatte ein Zimmer, mit direktem Zugang zum Pool. Wow! Morgens aufstehen, 2 Schritte gehen und in den Pool steigen. Genial. Besonders schön fand ich auch die zwei Chill-Out Betten direkt am Pool, mit den bequemen Sitz- und Liegesäcken. 
Das King Size Bett ist sehr bequem und großzügig. Hatte einen einwandfreien Schlaf. Klimaanlage und Smart-Tv (inkl. Netflix-Zugang :D) sind hier selbstverständlich. Was besonders zu erwähnen ist, dass es sich hier um ein Guesthouse handelt. Im Vergleich zu einem Hotel, wo doch alles etwas anonymer, distanzierter und unpersönlicher ist (meistens), merkt man hier die menschliche Komponente - von den Betreiber*Innen (das sind echte Gastgeber), dem gesamten Team und auch den anderen Gästen. Wenn man offen und kontaktfreudig ist, kann man hier sofort neue, nette Menschen kennenlernen. Hat aber genau so seine Privatsphäre, wenn man will. Finde ich eine schöne Kombination. Und mir als Alleinreisendem hat das mega getaugt. :)
Was ich auch richtig stark finde: als Guesthouse-Gast kann man sich in schönen Glasflaschen immer am frischen Trinkwasser versorgen. Zudem ist das Leitungswasser zum Zähneputzen und Co. geeignet, da hier mit einer Mehrfachfilteranlage auf europäischem Standard gearbeitet wird.

Restaurant Ich war bereits bei meinem ersten Abendessen überwältigt. Wirklich. Ich liebe gute Küche, vor allem auch die thailändische. Egal ob Salat, Curry oder Thai Fusion. Geschmacklich herausragend, sehr schön angerichtet und immer mit einem Lächeln serviert. Qualitativ merkt man einfach, dass hier mit super frischen und hauptsächlich lokal verfügbaren Zutaten gearbeitet wird.

Bar Sehr aufmerksames, liebes und nettes Barteam. Mit denen man auch ins Gespräch kommen kann, wenn man möchte. Man bekommt neue, interessante Empfehlungen oder kann aus fantastischen Cocktails, Longdrinks (internationaler Alkohol) oder einfach leckerem Bier und Wein wählen. Auch hier ist die Einrichtung sehr geschmackvoll und passend. Man kann sehr gemütlich am Tresen sitzen und das Treiben beobachten, auf das Meer blicken und eine tolle Zeit verbringen. Untermalt mit passender Musik, ein Träumchen. :) Und wenn Popsi, der nette Barkellner, ans Mikrofon geht und eine Liveperformance hinlegt: unglaublich! In der Bar gibt es zudem ein Pool-Billard-Tisch, der zum Spielen einlädt. Die Bar: Ein Platz, von dem man so schnell nicht mehr wieder wegkommt.

Café Ein schöner Ort, mit sehr leckerem Kaffee, extrem leckeren Smoothie-Bowls und Frühstück. Ähnlich, wie im Restaurant. Sehr frisch und toll angerichtet. Für mich immer der perfekte Start in den Tag.

Strand Überragende Aussicht auf das Meer, immer sauber gehalten und der Außenbereich (zwischen Restaurant und Strand) mit Beachbar, Hängematten, Liegen, Sitzsäcken, usw. ein wunderschöner Ort, um zu verweilen und beim Meeresrauschen die Seele baumeln zu lassen. Was ich außerdem super fand - vor allem, da ich auch gearbeitet habe (Workation): man hat überall bestes WLAN. Jede „Location“ hat sein eigenes Netzwerk (Café, Pool, Bar & Restaurant) und daher ist dem Empfang immer garantiert. Von der Bar aus reicht es sogar bis vor an Strand (klar, nicht überall gleichmäßig, aber an gewissen Stellen verfügbar). Die Geschwindigkeit und Qualität der Verbindung ist besser, als in Deutschland!

Alles in allem: Ich habe mich hier so sehr wohl gefühlt, es hat einfach alles gepasst. Von mir gibt’s daher 5 Sterne und ich werde definitiv noch oft hier her kommen, an diesen Traumhaften Ort zu...

Amazing place!

The guesthouse is beautiful, very welcoming, & cozy.

Rooms are comfortable & well planned, with a lovely decoration, small balcony, comfortable bed, good shower with strong water pressure, all needed amenities (coffee, fridge, kettle, etc.), and even a free miniral water bar.

The pool is great, relaxing, & spacious. Direct beach access to a good beach, not private but quiet & not crowded, & there are sunbeds & shades for the guests' use.

Didn't eat there, but the restaurant & beach bar areas are also lovely.

Good wifi in all areas.

Staff is friendly, kind, attentive, accommodating, & very willing to help.

They provide free pick up from & to the pier.

Perfect location with lots of dining options, & a few coffee shops & bars in the area, but still quiet & laid back.

If you're looking for a luxury resort, maybe it's not the right place for you. If you're looking for a beautiful, fun, & comfortable place - look no further.

Though it's a guesthouse & not a resort, we actually had a far better experience here in every aspect comparing to the 4 stars resort we have stayed in before coming to Koh Mak.

It's a small place, only 11 rooms, & usually fully booked, so make sure to book in advance.
