The Mangrove property itself was generally okay, however, there were some things that really dampened our experience and opinion of the property.
Pros: the location of the accommodation is walking distance to the Tinkerbell Beach, restaurants, night market and mini marts motorbike rental is available free kayaks for the guests at the property view of the river the breakfast wasn't the best, but it was included in the price and was somewhat decent room came with some useful accessories: umbrella, dry bag
Cons: when we arrived, we instantly felt and smelled the dampness of the room; horrible sewage/toilet smell that never went away. In addition, when we arrived, all the areas of the bathroom were wet (assuming it is as from the room cleaning). the shower is not separate from the toilet, so when you shower it unfortunately gets all the areas wet. cracks and holes between the wooden floor boards which allowed the bugs to come through our deck to the room was a bit unstable which could be dangerous the person who seems to be the manager or owner of the property (male)- every time we inquired about something, it seemed like we were bothering him. He always has an irritated look and demeanour. Throughout our stay at Mangrove, we were always hesitant of going to him for anything. For example, after checking in, we asked about when we could rent a motorbike and when reception would close. He assured us that we could talk to him any time about it and the reception would close at 8:30PM. So before we went to dinner (around 7:00PM), we asked if we could rent a motorbike. He was instantly annoyed and insisted that we rent the next day. Initially, we thought it was due to a miscommunication and misunderstanding, so we clarified that we would like a motorbike that night so we can drive to our dinner spot. He still continued to insist that we rent it tomorrow. Eventually, he scoffed and led us to the reception area to where the motorbike keys were kept, and then told us to go outside and choose a bike. We asked, "can we choose any bike?" He replied: "Yes, you choose any bike". So then my partner came back with a bike number, and sure enough, that one was not available. It was evident he was irritated and was not in the mood to provide any assistance, but then again, it was like that...
Read moreWe’ve stayed in many different places and resorts at the island and this one by far was exaptional. Run by a local family - our room had a comfortable, hard mattrace, the room has both a fan and a CLEAN well maintained aircon, the bathroom is big and has a nice shelf for all your cosmetics - it’s bright enough to comfortable shave your legs 😄😎. In the room we found a nice beach bag + a waterproof bag for when you go kayaking ( the kayaks here are included in the price of the room) + the breakfast is included too ;) the family will cater to your needs / help you book your transfer from the island + they also offer a few hours speed boat trips around the island ( squid fishing / snorkeling / private beach time with lunch :) we’ll deffo be...
Read moreLocally owned. Stayed here for 4d/n. A good choice for the budget traveler. Very laid back right by the riverbank. Super quiet if you get one of the bungalows by the river otherwise the bungalows not on the river is up towards the road which I presume you can hear the traffic. Riverside bungalows(5)are a lot more desirable but probably more expensive. The breakfast is awesome with a mix of Thai/Western food. The coffee was strong! Free kayaks for use that you can go upriver or down to the beach. Although it’s not beachfront, this riverbank location is a good alternative. Walkable to the main streets of the neighborhood where many restaurants are located. NO...
