Tipo used to serve great pasta at great prices. Nowadays, they serve subpar to awful pasta at above average prices.
My last 2 visits here weren't great, but I've been a huge fan of Tipo for years so I let those pass. Third time is most definitely the charm though, because tonight's visit was so incredibly awful, I swear I'll never eat at Tipo ever again.
First of all, they had to redo my order twice. Once, because they served my pasta with the wrong meat - a meat that wasn't even on the BYOP menu, no less - and then a second time, because they ran out of capers after wasting the last portion on that first plate. Mistakes happen, but come on.
Second of all, I ordered an aglio olio with crumbled sausage. I was served a gross, soggy mess of meat water and olive oil.
I've cooked crumbled sausage with pasta before and I know that you need to cook the uncased sausage on a pan for 10-15 mins to evaporate excess moisture before adding it to anything else. I'm absolutely convinced this hot mess was the result of the cook being lazy and just dumping the wet sausage meat straight into the pasta, because the bottom of the plate was pooling with the same yucky meat water that normally has to be cooked off a freshly uncased sausage, and they served me the pasta in less than 5 minutes after my order changed to sausage, which is nowhere near enough time to prepare it.
Lastly, and most egregiously, the counter staff told me that they realized they'd not given me the upsize I ordered, so they would remove it from the receipt and give me a 20% discount on top as an apology for all the order changes. I didn't check in the moment because my mood was already foul and I just wanted to leave.
Looking at the receipt at home, not only did they not remove the cost of the upsize, they also didn't give me the 20% discount that they claimed to have given.
Absurdly poor service, an atrocious meal, and for the price of a proper pasta at a decent Italian joint. What...
Read moreFor the price I’m paying (actually no I used voucher) I would expect something great but the food here is mediocre at best.
Let’s just say my first visit here was very disappointing but their service recovery was great that I was given a $50 voucher.
So… what happened? It was way back during fasting month this year and it was busy during dinner. Long story short, their printer ran out of paper (lol) and our order wasn’t printed so it wasn’t cooked.
We waited for 1 hour only to be told that the food was coming in 5/10 mins but nope we waited longer. Asked again and then they said our order wasn’t printed so the 5/10 mins wait was a lie? Idk.
They said they gonna cook our food right now but gurl I wanted to break my fast!
We decided to walk out and I was ready to give a 1 star review. They even offered to provide us a discount that night but we refused cos we were very hungry and decided to just eat at the ramadan bazaar instead.
But the next day, I received an (automated) email from them asking about my dining experience (which was non-existent). Of course I had to reply the situation to the Community Executive.
They gave a $50 voucher which we can use at any of their outlets and I finally used it yesterday.
Like I said, food is mediocre for the price, y’all can read the other reviews.
But my intention of writing this review is not to comment about the food, but more of creating awareness/educating y’all.
If the service at Tipo is bad, don’t just write a review on Google or rant to your loved ones. Email them. You might get a voucher and your next meal there is on them! You’re welcome.
I hope they replenish the paper regularly so as not to...
Read moreExtremely disappointing visit characterised by the following:
Service was all over the place and incompetent. The online menu showed that still water cost $2, and it was served in a carafe with 2 glasses. My table of 6 subsequently ordered another still water, thinking that we would get another carafe with glasses, and it when the second carafe was served it was without glasses. When we requested for more glasses, we were told that the still water on the online menu was $2 PER GLASS, which was not obvious on the face of it. The service staff was argumentative and dgaf. We were also only told after we ordered the second carafe, and from a second service staff, that (1) there had been a mix-up earlier when we were served with 2 glasses, and (2) the still water would be free-flow. I have never heard of a restaurant charging per glass 😭✋🏻 Tipo seriously needs to reexamine making these conditions clear on their online menu. The cherry on top is their physical menu quotes still water at $8 — why the huge discrepancy?
Another issue with the service is that the waitstaff are conveniently never around when you need help the most. I do not know if it is was because our table was half-hidden from sight by the cash register, but the waitstaff seriously need to be given proper training. It should not take 20 mins to be served with water.
Did not happen to my table personally, but the table next to us complained their food was undercooked, which is a big ick and turn-off.
To Tipo’s credit, the manager, Dan, acknowledged the service lapses and gave my group a 20% discount. Unless they step up their service, though, I doubt I...
