The decor is beautiful and unique to Trinidad so that gets full marks.
The staff is untrained and at every juncture seemed to be overwhelmed. Wait time outside the restaurant to be seated even with reservations is ridiculous. They should separate that line into people who donāt have reservations so the rest of the customers who had the foresight to make a reservation arenāt left standing there fully dressed up in a long line while the hostess struggles to find a free table for people with no reservation. thatās just stupid and a waste of time. Agreed with all the previous reviews that confirm that even without the reservations, After getting past the outside hostess, you have to sit inside near the entrance and wait for a clean table. Not sure whatās the point of a reservation then because if the restaurant canāt honour my reservation time, why would customers honour their reservation times. Maybe they are understaffed but from the outset it was a turnoff.
When eventually you seated you also have to wait for menus (gross tattered printer paper menus stained and falling apart). This needs to change. Itās unsanitary and unsightly.
Then you have to wait for a server. Then the food comes out in a haphazard and scattered order. Drinks arrive after the food if ever. Sweet dim sum items come to the table before everything else which is senseless.
It was my friendās birthday and a couple needed to leave and even though we asked three times for the cake with the candle to be brought it took maybe 40 minutes and they had to leave before the cake could arrive . Instead of apologising the server was actually extremely irritated with us.
As for the food some items were good some items were mediocre dressed up to give you the impression that it was good and others were simply overpriced . What I would say is do not take the recommendation of any servers. We ordered the pepper chicken it was just boneless chicken and ketchup. The baked custard buns were obviously frozen and reheated. It was crusty and not soft and pillowy and got hard by the time we were ready to eat it. The Hong Kong wontons were the best item and really how hard is it to mess that up the steam dim sum was okay Iāll give those a 7 out of 10. The cream cheese wontons were not cooked sufficiently and were actually a bit soggy. Itās also really nonsensical for restaurants across the board to have their staff bus food to a table before clearing the other empty plates you canāt expect customers to clear their table and pick up dirty dishes when you have servers to do that they just donāt have the training to know they need to clear one course before you bring out another so youāre always left standing over customers with dishes in your hand fully cooked meals while you both stare at each other figuring out where you should put it.
I donāt know if I would go back. But...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited here a month ago (Sep 2025). It was a 2 person party. Made the reservation and it had a mix up but still ended up getting through. The young waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. The atmosphere was nice. We got 2 mocktails which were really enjoyable. In terms of the food, a lot of the options were pork related, which I don't eat. So that eliminated around half the menu. I got the mushroom pow, chicken pow and also the mochi. Honestly when I picked up the mushroom pow and smelled it I didn't think I could eat it. The scent was weird. It was like a wet animal on a hot day (I am by no way saying that dog was served). But I'm very sensitive to smells. I didn't really like the pow by itself but when paired with the chili sauce it was decent. The chili sauce is what brings everything out. I got the same scent from the mochi. I'm guessing it's because these items are steamed idk. The pow were wonderfully crafted and looked very attractive. Anyways, I got the stir fried beef in black beans (I think that's the name). It was really good. I had the Sakura lychee cake and it was a bit disappointing. The cost of the items weren't bad for the portions and experience. We paid our bill, of course 10% service charge was included which is expected. Now we noticed the server looking at us when we exited. When I got home I looked at the bill and saw that they're also expecting tip. I was really suprised. Why have service charge if you're also going to be expecting tips? I felt a bit guilty since I didn't see the tip part in the restaurant. However, it's not something that's compulsory especially with service charge present so I would say that the servers shouldn't feel offended if someone doesn't tip. Overall, I would say it's decent, best for larger groups of family and friends since everything is portioned out. I would visit again in a larger...

I donāt normally write reviews, but my recent experience at The New Dim Sum King was so disappointing that I feel itās important to share.
When my girlfriend and I visited, the manager on duty, Joshua, treated us with shocking disrespect. My girlfriend was wearing a mesh dress with black undergarments, and instead of approaching the situation with professionalism or discretion, Joshua escorted her outside in front of multiple guests and spoke to her in a condescending, judgmental tone. He told her she was ādressed extremely inappropriatelyā for a āfamily restaurant,ā and āif you chose to dress like that then thatās your choice,ā his words and delivery were unnecessarily rude and humiliating.
If a dress code truly exists, it should be clearly posted and communicated politely. Instead, Joshua singled her out and attempted to impose his personal judgment. To make matters worse, he brought her a shawl and, in a highly inappropriate gesture, suggested going to the bathroom with her so he could tie it for her. This comment crossed a line from unprofessional into deeply unsettling.
We left feeling disrespected, embarrassed, and uncomfortable. Restaurants are supposed to provide hospitality, not shame or humiliate their guests. Respect and professionalism should never be optional in customer service, and unfortunately, our experience showed neither.
Until management takes accountability for this type of behavior and implements proper training, I cannot recommend The New...
