The Lopinot House is named after the original estate owner, Charles Joseph Count de Lopinot, a Frenchman. Count de Lopinot arrived in Trinidad in 1800 and established La Reconnaissance Estate in 1804. Lopinot House was built in 1806 and it is one of the few remaining structures from La Reconnaissance Estate.
A great place for family retreat, as the outer area of the historical house is covered with huge Saaman Trees and structures of the cocoa era, and the river area is laden with tents, and surrounded by tall bamboo patches which gives you all the fresh air and coolness you can ever want.for cooking and recreational use. The place appears to have been abandoned in a haste. Literally on the brink of collapsing to ruin. Felt a bit short changed as we werent able to go into the main house and actually see some of the exhibits. However, we still were able to walk around the compound and explore on our own accord. A bit surreal given the historical importance of the place that there seems to be no real impetus to protect and preserve the history of Trinidad. Aside from these shortcomings, the place is absolutely marvelous. Hopefully we can visit again when it is has been restored to its former glory.

The grounds are well maintained and litter free for the most part. The main building as of April 2021 is surrounded with caution ⚠ tape and seemed to be condemned.
Washrooms were decent with soap and water. There are picnic areas and a large play field... It is quite peaceful and I observed one lady enjoying the tranquility on a sheet that she spread on the grass.
Keep a clean scene and take only what you can carry.

A cool place for picnicking with the family. We enjoyed the nature. There was no one there so we had fun exploring on ancestral grounds. The drive here was a scary one, you actually going up the mountain. It was my first time driving up , you must be careful. There's local drivers who knows the drive but they make it even scarier. Keep your both hands on the wheel.

Been visiting this place off and on about 15 years now and I must say the owners did a good job preserving the main components of this site. In my opinion the river by the house itself could have been kept in a better condition, nevertheless, the site is still a good place to visit, take casual pictures and even wedding/anniversary photos as well.

Place of history. There is a tour available for guest about the caribs. Wonderful place to spend the day with the kids and watch nature unfold with the squirrels.

Yerettê - The Home of the Hummingbird, is encapsulated in an aura of tranquility, peace, joy and healing.
Upon entering the humble abode of Mr. & Mrs. Ferguson. We were greeted with the melodious humming and chirping of the Hummingbirds emanating from the couple's dainty flower garden.
The sight was one to marvel at. Never had we seen so many Hummingbirds in the same place at the same time. The astonishing birds proudly displayed themselves in all their glory. They hovered gracefully around us, showing off their agility and speed as the flew past our faces and came close to stare from time to time. We certainly were in much more awe of them than they were of us.
As Dr. Ferguson engaged us, he humbly imparted his vast knowledge about the humming birds and their undeniable importance to the Amerindian people of Trinidad.
While my brain soaked in the new knowledge, my eyes were mesmerized by the sight of these exuberant birds.
After a scenic and romantic stroll in the enchanting garden, and a light indulgence in a delicious layout of evening tea prepared by Mrs. Ferguson, our evening concluded with a presentation put together by Dr. Ferguson featuring phenomenal photos taken by himself.
It was an enriching experience being at Yerettê. As a Trinidadian residing here, it is awe-inspiring to know that a place like this exists where knowledge can be passed down to us about our own country, that will continue to cultivate our sense of national pride.

Friendly and knowledgeable hosts! Aesthetically pleasing atmosphere and the refreshments provided were quite delicious. Fed my curiosity and gained a lot of knowledge! Enjoyed it thoroughly and would recommend anyone to experience this great place of nature!
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the melodious chirps of the hummingbirds, the gentle, cool wafts of the valley breeze and a warm welcome from Mr and Ms Ferguson. We eased into the comfortable cushions of their humble abode and soaked in the vast and expansive knowledge of Mr Ferguson as the beautiful creatures danced around us all evening.
During our intermission, we savored and enjoyed the delicious refreshments provided by Ms Ferguson and marveled at the aesthetically amazing landscape upon us. After which, we enjoyed another informative presentation and bid our farewells, leaving with a few ‘goodies.’
As a senior High School Student, it was quite an enriching experience and one that I would urge anyone to experience, a hidden piece of nature that would instill and cultivate added values to your National Pride!

Yerette has to be one of the most understated and excellent eco experiences in Trinidad. You don’t need to be a bird enthusiast or hummingbird lover to fall in love with this ethereal garden. Here you will get incredible bird value for money spent. There are 15 different species of hummingbirds that live here. All that’s required is 3.5 - 4 hours and trust me that time will feel like an investment in the end. Yerette receives visitors year round from all corners of the globe just to catch a glimpse of our local hummingbird beauty.
I am not a birder. However, I am someone who appreciates fresh air, green spaces, natural beauty, wildlife and colour. If you’re in Trinidad for work, Carnival or visiting friends/family and want to squeeze in something extra to take back, let it be this informative, outdoorsy one (with some tasty treats at the end). Quite possibly the most aesthetically pleasing cheesepaste sandwich ever (if you’re there for the tea time session).
Payment is with cash only.

Huge tourist trap. Basically the entire thing consists of sitting on a patio for 1.5 hours listening to this guy rant about his anti-western views and revisionist history -- he didn't even talk about hummingbirds until the last 15 minutes. The history was wildly inaccurate (I hold a PhD as well but don't talk down to people the way this guy does), and I felt genuinely embarrassed for the British tourists who paid to be targeted by his anti-western rants. He told one guy he "forgives" him for what "they" did to him.
There is no "garden walk" as advertised unless you consider sitting in a small backyard a tour. He just talks and you look at some hummingbirds. The locals seemed interested (hence the stellar rating from mostly locals), but if you are a foreigner, give this a hard pass.

Amazing location and environment - the sheer number and range of types of hummingbirds in this one special place is truly unique. With that said, 75% of the “tour” was spent listening to Theo speak at us, often times in a condescending and frankly awkward manner. 30-45 minutes of this would have been tolerable, as we learned some great information about the hummingbirds, but the fact that 2.5 hours+ of the 3.5 hour total time was spent this way really soured the experience for us overall. Not to even mention that one of Theo’s example ‘questions’ started out with asking my fiancé what she weighed in front of the entire group… may be a cultural thing but it certainly was just one of the various moments that made us feel uncomfortable.
