Arrived at the restaurant before it was busy. Our order was taken, there is no menu. The waiter explained it was chicken, lamb or mixed meat kebabs with all the trimmings.

It started well, a starter of harissa dip and bread arrived.

The waiter then had to ask us 3 times what we’d ordered as the restaurant was getting busy and clearly getting out of control.

35 mins later we asked where our kebabs were, he brought them to the table a few minutes later but the chicken one was uncooked.

We did not have time to have it recooked as we’d already been there nearly an hour. When we went to pay argued that one plate was inedible but he was reluctant to reduce the cost due to you ‘paying’ for the view!

Other patrons at the restaurant were also asking to get their food recooked. It was also clear, as per other reviews, there is little order to who gets what and people were not getting their food in the order it was taken.

We have travelled around Tunisia for a week and this is the first time we’ve received poor quality food and service from a restaurant.

You absolutely pay for...

Visited in May 2019. Open seating area next to busy road outside the Amphitheatre. No sooner had the friendly staff put the bread and dip down so many flies descended on us. I found myself fighting flies off more than eating. I ordered a mixed kebab, which felt like it took forever to come. The kebab itself wasn't anything special, but the fries were some of the best I've had in a while. I asked to use the toilet facilities, I wish I hadn't. Wet floor, poo still in the bowl and flush doesn't work. Safe to say I probably won't be going back. Pros, friendly staff, great view of the Amphitheatre, relatively cheap, plenty of hustle and bustle. Cons, plenty of dust, fumes and...

Poor character of the manager was a big turn off for this place. We stopped in front of his restaurant for a mint tea and were instantly confronted with typical confrontational tourist trap hype. I said no thank you and said we will pass on the tea and maybe stop by after a visit to the Colosseum. As we returned we saw the manager waiting like he was selling a used car then we noticed no seating in the Sunshine so we stopped by the El Hana restaurant next door and wow was he angry. I would pass on this place and read the reviews...

Great location, right in front of the Amphitheater. Very practical with street parking nearby. The food was just fine; service also just normal; but the prices were, of course, touristic, which is understandable because they pay high rent. In our case, it took a long time to prepare food as they delivered our order (food) to a white family who didn't want to wait long. Everything normal, nothing special to mention. There are plenty of restaurants and snack bars in that area, in front of the Amphitheater.

Really friendly and helpful staff and owner, who seemed genuinely glad that we decided to go there. It's right opposite the exit from the amphitheatre, so you'd think it was a tourist trap. I'm sure it's expensive for El Jem, but about €10 for a good lunch for two (a lamb kebab and grilled fish as the main courses) is fine for me. The food is all cooked outside the front of the restaurant.

Bagno inverecondo. Prezzi alti. Poche alternative in zona. Unica nota positiva il fatto di mangiare a pochissimi metri dal meraviglioso anfiteatro di El Jem.
